Out-of-date names[edit]

Hi Plantdrew - please don't put them back in, it messes up e.g. the VN lists at Commons, etc., by adding misleading names that are no longer applied to species following species splits. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 22:10, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

It isn't Wikidata's job to provide a list of preferred vernacular names for use on Commons. Wikidata lists sourced vernacular names; multiple names should be included when there are sources for them, not deleted to make things convenient for Commons. Commons needs to figure out how to select the names that are desired to be displayed there. Plantdrew (talk) 01:27, 26 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'd disagree strongly there; wikidata dumps all its names indiscriminately onto commons, whether they are current or not. It is surely a purpose of wikidata to indicate whether a name is current or historical; or valid or not; and also whether it is local / regional, or in wide use. - MPF (talk) 20:15, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Turdus arthuri (Q55115394)[edit]

Why have you deleted the image I added? Please restore it. Also please add reference IOC v.9.2 (scroll to near the end of the page). - MPF (talk) 22:19, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And ditto the link to Wikispecies. - MPF (talk) 23:14, 24 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MPF:, I didn't delete any thing per se. I restored a version that you hadn't mucked up by inappropriately merging items on different taxon concepts. I apologize for not reinstating all of your good edits made following the bad merge; they are now reinstated. There is not yet an item for IOC9.2; rather than creating one myself and adding it to a single taxon, I'll leave it to the people that usually update all birds en masse when a new IOC version is released. Thanks, though as an aside, I didn't "muck up by inappropriately merging items on different taxon concepts" - a robot did that in my name when I tried linking the wikispecies page (therefrom) to wikidata; it was all automated, and I didn't know what had happened about it on wikidata until you reverted it - MPF (talk) 20:07, 27 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment[edit]

Dear Plantdrew,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link

I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards
