Duplicates

[edit]

Hi Rose,

you are creating a ton of duplicates. Both persons (George Templeton Strong (Q122873530)=George Templeton Strong (Q339946)) and libraries (e.g. Katholieke Universiteit te Leuven Universiteitsbibliotheek (Q122873667)).

Please stop your import immediately before figuring out a deduplication against existing Wikidata items.

Thanks for pointing this out; as I'm sure you can tell I'm new at this and learning quickly. I'll make sure to be more conscious. Happy to help rectify duplicates. Rosemccandless (talk) 17:20, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Remarks

[edit]

There are new duplicates like Ibrāhīm ibn Ṣāliḥ Shāhidī Dadah Mughlavī (Q123581783) and Shahidi Ibrahim Dede (Q8084312). People from cultures with the Arab alphabet need their original name! Kind regards, Geverkshaft (talk) 13:12, 13 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sources needed

Hello Rose, you've created Gregor Hagen (Q123760787), 15th-c. author of Chronica des Landes Oesterreich. Where did you find this book? You've added GND 119696754 but there is no hint that this Gregor Hagen is the author. You seem to use Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts name ID (P9756) to create items for which you have no sources.

--Emu (talk) 09:41, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Emu: Thanks. That was info I was looking for. Kolja21 (talk) 18:26, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello! This work is listed in Gregor Hagen's VIAF ID file (VIAF no. 77130721). If the VIAF file is incorrect, I'm happy for you to correct it! The sources for SDBM name IDs are primarily the medieval manuscripts which serve as the actual, physical sources for this information and their catalogues, based in a great deal of scholarship (not my own!). When I am working from an actual manuscript, or authoritative manuscript catalogue, I list that information in the description of the SDBM name ID. @Rosemccandless: Q123760787 is not only a conflation (15th-c. vs. end of 16th-c.) but a duplicat. If you search the author of the Chronica you can look him up in the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie (Q590208) (ADB). Wikidata has the article Hagen, Gregor (Q21213348) and an item for the author of the Chronica = Gregor Hagen (Q55122697), GND 104333960. Kolja21 (talk) 18:29, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
✓ Done I did the clean up. --Kolja21 (talk) 18:40, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS: "This work is listed in Gregor Hagen's VIAF ID file (VIAF no. 77130721)". Yes, since 2023-12-25. Q123760787 was created 12. Dec. 2023‎. The VIAF cluster is mixed due to your work. Kolja21 (talk) 18:54, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! That's very helpful and I appreciate it. Rosemccandless (talk) 16:49, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

And please take a look at the exclamation marks (!). They show that you have (again) created a new item for a person that already exists in Wikidata: VIAF 5722701 (!) + wrong use of DNB edition ID + Schoenberg Database of Manuscripts name ID (!). --Kolja21 (talk) 01:18, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
