Bonjour,

Je suis un Wikipédien français. Merci de me contacter sur fr:Discussion_Utilisateur:Vargenau.

Hello,

I am a French Wikipedian. Please contact me on fr:Discussion_Utilisateur:Vargenau.

Hallo,

Ich bin ein französischer Wikipedia Benutzer. Bitte gehen Sie zu : fr:Discussion_Utilisateur:Vargenau.

Merge page[edit]

Please use the merge tool [1] you can activate it in your gadget and check on, always merg to lowest ID and request deletion for extra item, thanks --Rippitippi (talk) 15:24, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, this tool would be very useful for you as you regularly merge pages. It is very easy to use. It is in your preferences, all you need to do is tick the box and save. Delsion23 (talk) 12:53, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I will use it. I have now finished the pages clean-up. Vargenau (talk) 15:46, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please use better reason than "empty"? Reason "Merged with [[XXXX]]" comes automatically when you merge pages using the merge tool. --Stryn (talk) 07:33, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I did not use merge. I just add the interwiki to the page. The wiki software empties the wikidata page. This happens when there is only one interwiki. I have no means to know whether the page without interwiki has an associated wikidata page or not.

The wiki software should be improved to handle this case.

Best regards,

Vargenau (talk) 08:00, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, just deleting sitelink from Q2 and moving it to Q1 is also merging. It's faster and easier with the merge tool (in my opinion). Also, I would not like to delete pages with the reason "empty", because all pages can be empty if sitelinks are deleted, so it's not so good reason for delete pages, regards, --Stryn (talk) 08:21, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Please re-read my previous answer. I did not delete the link. The wiki software did.

Best regards,

Vargenau (talk) 08:35, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Merging items[edit]

For merging items, you can try the following tool: Merge.js gadget. It makes it much easier to do, and easier for the admins to check and follow up your nominations. -Cycn (talk) 09:53, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I use the Merge.js when needed.

But the most current case is the following:

  • I see a page without interwikis. I cannot know if there a wikidata page associated.
  • I add a page with interwikis.

The wiki software will clean the wikidata page if it exists.

Best regards,

Vargenau (talk) 12:48, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I check the history of the item and merge it into its new item. But I see, you never removed the item from the entry you are nominating. That explains. Cycn (talk) 15:06, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate entries[edit]

Even though you've been pointed before to the merge gadget you still do edits like this and subsequently this. You should have deleted the sitelink at Chaumont (Q193880) and then merged the other entry in. Mbch331 (talk) 21:35, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Libellé et alias[edit]

Bonjour,

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 08:50, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour,

Cordialement,

Vargenau (talk) 08:55, 2 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There are separate data items for the prophets (people) and the books they wrote. The books have a sequence, but the people did not live in the same order.

You have been numbering the prophets (people), which doesn't really make sense, as these people did not prophesy in that order. --EncycloPetey (talk) 14:50, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I did not invent it.

If you read the French 12 articles on these prophets, you will see that they all start with a sentence like "Sophonie (צְפַנְיָה en hébreu) est le neuvième des douze petits prophètes de la Bible".

Best regards,

Vargenau (talk) 14:56, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

GPL-2.0 is unusual[edit]

Bonjour, j'attire votre attention sur : https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Talk:Q10513450. Au plaisir d'en discuter avec vous :-) Dachary (talk) 14:36, 20 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Prénoms[edit]

Bonjour Vargenau,

Mortimer[edit]

You merged Mortimer (Q18822560) with Mortimer family (Q3065370). However a family and a last name are two different concepts and shouldn't be merged. I undid the merge, but in the future please check that the items are the same concept when merging. Mbch331 (talk) 10:59, 27 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Orthographe[edit]

Salut,

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 11:50, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour,

Je devais être fatigué ce jour-là. Apparemment ce sont les seuls cas. Merci de me l'avoir signalé.

Cordialement,

Vargenau (talk) 12:06, 16 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Natural number vs nonnegative integer[edit]

Hi! They are not the same. Whether the set of natural numbers equals to the set of the nonnegative integers () or the set of the positive integers () is up to definition, and mathematicians can’t decide on the matter; some use the former, some the latter. (The former might be more common nowadays, but still not the only one.) Please revert this merge and your related edits. Thanks in advance, —Tacsipacsi (talk) 23:50, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
You mean we need an entry for ℕ, an entry for ℕ* and an entry for "we do not know if it is ℕ or ℕ*" ?
Regards,
Vargenau (talk) 07:10, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sort of. English Wikipedia article en:Natural number#Notation defines or as the unambiguous notation that includes zero and leaves ambiguous, as it is indeed, so the three entities we need is non-negative numbers (), positive numbers () and natural numbers, up to interpretation (). —Tacsipacsi (talk) 12:32, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This is strange, I have never heard of ℕ being ambiguous. For Bourbaki, ℕ includes 0.
I am French, and in French the words "positive" and "negative" have a slightly different meaning than in English.
"positif" (positive) means >= 0
For > 0, we say "strictement positif" (strictly positive)
Same for "négatif".
Regards,
Vargenau (talk) 13:00, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting, both can be same in some languages, and different in other languages, what about reporting at WD:IC? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:35, 14 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Invalid languages[edit]

Hello, please do not attempt to add labels in these languages. Although it's possible to insert them, they are not valid (and it's a known bug). You can find a mapping to valid languages here. --Matěj Suchánek (talk) 12:14, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
I am sorry, but I do not understand what you mean.
Can you please be more explicit?
Thank you

Unapproved bot[edit]

Hi Vargenau,

Can you point me to the approval for your bots edits to labels? --- Jura 19:59, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jura,
I got the bot flag in 2015 for creating interwikis. Later I started to work on labels and descriptions.
I add labels if they are missing.
I modify labels only for categories and templates. I check for categories and templates by testing the presence of ":". This gives a very small percentage of errors, which I revert when I notice them. I might of course miss some.
Best regards,
Vargenau (talk) 20:20, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding labels in Finnish and (disambiguation)[edit]

(täsmennyssivu) means (disambiguation) in Finnish. Can you fix it so Escarbot won't add (täsmennyssivu) in labels: special:diff/1186254816, special:diff/1197612113, special:diff/1191744265, special:diff/1202317000, special:diff/1218653158, special:diff/1198655741, special:diff/1195036856, special:diff/1276042876. Let's discuss[edit]

On 20 April I invited you to discuss. You haven't replied yet, but you continue your problematic edits. As Lymantria suggested, please try to find consensus before continuing. --bdijkstra (overleg) 09:28, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I was in vacation for two weeks, 21 April to 6 May, and I did not see your answer before leaving. Sorry about it.

Étranges modifs[edit]

Bonjour,

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 15:21, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Erreur de copier-coller. C'est corrigé. Merci du signalement. Vargenau (talk) 15:25, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Parfait, merci ! La seule interrogation qui me reste est pourquoi y a-t-il deux catégories sur it.wp... Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 16:25, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Pour info, j'ai posé la question sur it:Discussioni_Wikipedia:Ambasciata#Duplicate_categories_?. Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 07:59, 2 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Veranstaltung[edit]

Why you move these particular sitelinks now? German "Veranstaltung" is not specific to entertainment either, it's also used for events like political, scientific or economic events (see subcategories in de:Kategorie:Veranstaltung nach Thema). 2001:7D0:81FD:BC80:7D73:87A9:E7A7:847F 13:26, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Because all subcategories of Q8418654 are linked like that. Vargenau (talk) 13:39, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean? Subcategories of Category:Entertainment events by country (Q8418654) are different categories with different (more narrow) subjects. Organized events (Veranstaltung) is just more broad subject than entertainment events. It's OK to categorize more narrow subjects as subcategories of a broader category, of course. Sitelinks one the other hand are generally expected to link to the same subject (not broader or narrower one). 2001:7D0:81FD:BC80:7D73:87A9:E7A7:847F 13:53, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I mean that for example en:Category:Entertainment events in Greece is linked to de:Kategorie:Veranstaltung in Griechenland
And the same for all countries. Vargenau (talk) 14:00, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that's new, I hadn't discovered it yet. This is apparently only due to bunch of recent merges you did, e.g. Special:Diff/1742142705. These merges quite clearly weren't right either for the same reason. 2001:7D0:81FD:BC80:7D73:87A9:E7A7:847F 14:08, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello.

Can you add the newly created category lld:Categoria:Aserbaigian in Ladin Wikipedia to the Wikidata page of "Category:Azerbaijan" (Q5609682)? That page is protected and that is why I cannot add it.

Yours sincerely, 31.200.17.120 23:33, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
It's done.
Happy new year! Vargenau (talk) 11:03, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much and Happy New Year to you too! 31.200.17.120 12:14, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About categorization of user languages categories[edit]

Thank you for creating lots of user languages categories like Category:User am-3. However I thought it would be better to categorize them under Category:User am rather than Category:Babel - Users by language like fr:Catégorie:Wikipédiens par langue and en:Category:Wikipedians by language. Could you help? Thanks.--迴廊彼端 (talk) 04:08, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
I have fixed it. Please check if it is correct. Vargenau (talk) 16:47, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Airplanes and aircraft[edit]

I left a comment in Talk:Q10248611 about Russian airplanes and aircraft categories. I see now you also moved some categories of Soviet airplanes from airplanes category Category:Airplanes manufactured in the Soviet Union (Q9682194) to aircraft category (Special:Diff/1822203016/1822205043) in similar manner. This doesn't make sense to me. All these sitelinks are for categories of airplanes in paricular not for categories containing all types of aircraft. 2001:7D0:81FD:BC80:345B:D076:B8C0:1B42 18:51, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Care to explain you actions? As you can see some Wikipedias (plwiki and ptwiki) even have separate categories for these. Why these can't be accurately connected to corresponding categories in other languages? 2001:7D0:81FD:BC80:345B:D076:B8C0:1B42 19:11, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship[edit]

Hi, have you considered applying for adminship? This would allow you to handle deleted categories by yourself probably resulting in less work for you (and the other admins). You also seem to have a lot of experience both on Wikidata and on other wikis, so I imagine your request would be very much welcomed. --Emu (talk) 19:12, 17 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the advice. I will apply. Vargenau (talk) 07:40, 18 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Dear Administrator![edit]

English | español | français | Nederlands |

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our gift is better than the one at Commons or Meta)

Here's your badge: {{User admin}}/{{#babel:admin}} and {{Admin topicon}}. Enjoy!

Congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Wikidata. Please take a moment to read the Wikidata:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Wikidata:Project chat, Wikidata:Requests for comment, and Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikidata-adminconnect. If you need access, you can flag someone down at #wikidataconnect. You may find Wikidata:Guide to Adminship to be useful reading. You may also want to consider adding yourself to meta:Template:Wikidata/Ambassadors, and to any similar page on your home wiki if one exists. (Check Wikipedia:Wikidata/Wikidatans (Q14964498).)

Please also add/update the languages you speak to your listing at Wikidata:List of administrators and Wikidata:Administrators/Timeline. You may also like to add your username to this list if you would not like that items you delete at RfD get marked as deleted automatically. Again, welcome to the admin corps!

stop removing category labels in different languages[edit]

Category labels, even if categories do not exist in wikis, exist for search possibility.--VitalRyabchuk (talk) 12:16, 27 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I only remove labels on categories when they are wrong, i.e. they below to another element.

Best regards,

Fremantle Oval[edit]

I'm a little confused as to why you removed the link to the commons page (Category:Fremantle Oval) from Fremantle Oval (Q5501496)? Is there a specific reason for this? Calistemon (talk) 08:09, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
It's an error. I just wanted to remove the description as a category in many languages. I did so by reverting a modification and had not noticed it also removed the commons link.
Best regards,
Vargenau (talk) 08:18, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers, just wanted to make sure there wasn't a good reason for it. I see its back on now. Thank you. Calistemon (talk) 08:26, 8 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
