Appeal for Unblock

[edit]
Unblock request granted

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, and one or more administrators has reviewed and granted this request.

Request reason:
Dear Wikimedia colleagues (Admins),

I am writing to appeal the block that was placed on my editing privileges on Wikidata several months ago, allegedly for abusing multiple accounts. I want to clarify that this account belongs solely to me, and I have not created or used any other accounts apart from this one. I am not involved in any form of using multiple accounts.

I understand that the block may have been implemented due to IP address issues, which could potentially be attributed to a technological misunderstanding. To the best of my knowledge, this was the reason for my block. I want to emphasize that this account is mine alone and has not been shared with anyone. Therefore, I respectfully request that you review my appeal and consider lifting the block.

I want to stress that I am innocent of the alleged misconduct that led to the block on my account. While I acknowledge the reasons behind the initial block, I maintain that I have not engaged in any wrongdoing. Wikipedia serves as the world's largest repository of knowledge, contributed to by individuals like myself. Reinstating my editing privileges would allow me to continue making valuable and constructive contributions.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my appeal. I appreciate your attention to this matter.

This template should be archived normally.

CC @ Jasper Deng as blocking admin. This appears to be related to Wikidata:Requests for checkuser/Case/Marcyway4, specifically Special:Diff/1837049351. Bovlb (talk) 20:45, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reviewing contributions and delete contributions, I see many items with poorly established notability, but I note that they all relate to a traditionally under-documented geopolitical area. I'm going to add a template notability warning below that may be useful to the user if unblocked. I haven't looked at everything, but I'm not seeing evidence of recreation of deleted items, which is the usual tell for sockpuppet accounts. I believe this is a "checkuser block", so I'm not going to unblock until Jasper Deng weighs in, but my inclination would be to apply en:WP:ROPE here. Bovlb (talk) 21:53, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contributing to Wikidata. I see that you recently created an item that does not clearly indicate its notability. The Wikidata project only accepts items that meet its notability criteria, and your item is therefore likely to be deleted soon. In brief, items must have an associated Wikipedia article, must be needed for statements on another notable item, or must have both identifiers and serious sources. For the last case, a good indication of notability would be multiple articles about the subject in independent publications like newspapers or magazines. You can add such sources as references to specific claims using reference URL (P854), or as top-level claims using described at URL (P973).

Also, this may not apply in this specific case, but you should know that we discourage editors from contributing on topics with which they have a strong personal connection, as this may present a conflict of interest. If you are being paid to edit here, then you are obliged to disclose this. For a longer version, you might find it useful to read the essay "How to create an item on Wikidata so that it won't get deleted".  Bovlb (talk) 21:53, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Bovlb The items I created pertain to a geographical area that is traditionally under-documented, which does not meet the notability criteria. I was honestly unaware of these notability criteria before, which is why you saw those items. Now that you have informed me, I am committed to contributing to Wikidata in accordance with the guidelines that govern it, ensuring that my contributions are valuable. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. Regards. Yahuzaishat (talk) 04:38, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A side question: We're always trying to improve our documentation and the experience for new users. It's striking that you say you were "honestly unaware of these notability criteria before". How could we make our notability criteria more obvious? At least in English, it's in the first line of the message when creating a new item. Bovlb (talk) 16:19, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
In my opinion, any editor that joins Wikidata, admin should please include a notice of the existence of policy in the welcome message on his/her talk page. This will make him/her cognizant of the policy. Thank you so much. Yahuzaishat (talk) 17:26, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I personally stand by my CheckUser result, but any of my colleagues (@Sotiale, 1997kB, BRPever, علاء : may unblock if they disagree. Unfortunately, you're not technically distinguishable from numerous other accounts pushing non-notable "spam" items here.--Jasper Deng (talk) 08:55, 10 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Jasper Deng The fact that you personally stand by your CheckUser result is unarguable. It's so unfortunate that I am not technically distinguishable from other account that are creating non-notable items here. However, learning is a continuous process, I was not aware of notability criteria before, that's why you see I have created those items. Being a participant of Wikipedia Awareness in Akko, that's my first encounter with Wikipedia as an editor. I am individual who is open-minded to learning new experience from mistakes, which I believe I have learned new thing here. While acknowledging your stand, I urge you to know that those items are traditionally under-documented geographical area. And I'm sorry for that.
Finally, considering what I learned through @Bovlb on notability criteria and the essay on how to create an item on Wikidata so it won't get deleted, I am assuring you that, I will never create a non-notable item here, all my contributions will be aligned to the criteria given. For that, being Wikidata a base of knowledge contributed by individuals, I regret my pervious action, and I respectfully request you to unblock me so that I keep contributing here in accordance with the guidelines that govern it. Thank you so much for blocking for the first time so that I learned this, thank you so much for bringing knowledge to my experience, and thank you so much as you consider my request. Regards. Yahuzaishat (talk) 07:14, 11 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to say that this block can be lifted, Bovlb. This could be because the ISP they use is very confusing. I agree to unblock as long as it is confirmed that this user will not repeat any policy violations including notability guideline. --Sotiale (talk) 12:35, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yes sir, having leaned the policy, I agree that I will never repeat any policy violation of whatsoever kind throughout my contributions on Wikipedia Projects. I am sorry for the previous, and I confirm that I will not repeat again. Thank you so much. Yahuzaishat (talk) 17:22, 16 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Sotiale: Ping Bovlb (talk) 18:33, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Per Sotiale and the assurance above, I'm going to unblock. Happy editing! Bovlb (talk) 22:31, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad for this. I am assuring that my contributions will be meaningful and notable throughout my stay on Wikipedia projects.
Thank you so much. Regards. Yahuzaishat (talk) 09:06, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
