It seems to me that what happened on Q217636 occurs once in a while.

Do we already have a ticket about it and any ideas when it tends to occur?
--- Jura 08:09, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Yeah I am pretty sure we have one but I can't seem to find it right now. The problem is that this is super hard to investigate and without a better understanding of what is going on we don't have much to go on for a fix at the moment. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 10:25, 20 March 2017 (UTC)
The user who removed it left some feedback on their talk page. Obviously, in the meantime they probably forgot what they did. Maybe it would help if it was investigated when reports occur. Not sure if these can be found by querying recent changes. If these aren't spotted, I think they can generate either lots of manual work trying to find items for unliked pages when users work by language or it can lead to lots of duplicates.

@Darena5991: Happens regularly: [1][2].
Common pattern: added sitelink (from the client widget), removed all other links and merged to item where the sitelink belongs. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 16:31, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
I looked more into the edits and still can't make sense of it -.-. I will try to look into it next week Marius. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 11:50, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
Maybe it has something to do with https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:NewItem?site=enwiki&page=The+Tempest+%281963+film%29 when called in Wikipedia and leading to a pop-up Window.
I wonder if Special:SetLabelDescriptionAliases or Special:SetAliases occasionally doesn't do similar things with aliases.
In any case, I left a note for Pasleim, we need to stop these being redirected.
--- Jura 14:21, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
So I looked into this and I have a theory on how this happens: People from a client Wiki (Wikipedia) want to get to a Wikidata Item, but they only see the link item widget (the one which lets you select a site and a page you want your page to be linked with). They than fill something more or less related into the widget in order to get the page linked to Wikidata. After they've done that, they go to Wikidata and change the Item to fit what they were looking for. Do you think that's what's happening here? Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 14:55, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
I can only speculate, but I don't think the removals on https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q217636&action=history are necessarily one by one deletes. Maybe the widget does that? Is there are way to tag some of these edits to identify how they were done? Maybe this helps analyze future edits.
--- Jura 17:05, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Here are some additional examples: Q1148713, Q292295, Q1349471, Q876322, Q7081646. Maybe the users could be contacted to find out what they actually tried to achieve and how? In some cases it seems, that the users tried to assign one single new link to a wrong wikidata object, when they removed this link again to assign it to the correct object, they also removed several other links. --M2k~dewiki (talk) 19:03, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

See MediaWiki talk:Gadget-Merge.js#Error while .22Creating redirect....22: .5BWOOgFApAMCEAAD5u17cAAAAY.5D Database query error. I am posting here because I don't know if it's rare or something that needs attention. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 17:06, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Languages for P:P1559

Need more languages, now especially Q35761: ISO 639-3 nxm. Marcus Cyron (talk) 12:47, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

@Marcus Cyron: I just created T162552 for this. Once the language committee approves, this can be implemented. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 17:25, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, but I don't understand this. I need the langage, whan I wanna give the correct Name in the original language as here Q556302. I don't have any chance to give the name except the lanuage is in the system. But the language is real, was spoken, there are people with names in this language. For what should I need the approve of the language committee? Marcus Cyron (talk) 17:31, 9 April 2017 (UTC)
We are not experts when it comes to languages. There are a lot of pitfalls related to languages that we are not able to anticipate. The language committee is just giving this a quick look-over to make sure there are no issues. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 17:36, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

Need help writing query

Hi can I ask here some help in writing a query? Actually I need to query Wikidata to get the title, description, all the "In more languages" items, all statements label, statement descriptions and links to some wikipedia languages pages for the category "Daily Newspaper"... (see sample attached)... Is this possible? Thanks for a feedback  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mdeninno (talk • contribs) at 12. 4. 2017, 18:49‎ (UTC).

Hello, please add your request to the page WD:Request a query. By the way, you can see the link on the top of this page. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 19:25, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Error in setting official websites

Following the conversation related to setting official websites, I would like to know how can we deal with such use cases. Is there any string or special property? Thanks. Jsamwrites (talk) 09:04, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

Can not restore a deleted item

I erroneously deleted Q3856077 and can not restore it. Jasper Deng reported that he can not restore it either, see Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard#Q3856077, which means it must be a bug. Thanks.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:29, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

It looks like ATM we can't restore any items. Stryn (talk) 19:33, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
But I just checked I can do it on the English Wikipedia, so it looks like a local Wikidata problem.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:41, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
Furthermore it would seem that it's limited to items. Undeletion seems to work on "normal" MediaWiki pages.--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:43, 17 April 2017 (UTC)
It seems caused by a patch in MediaWiki that we were not aware of. I'll put it on the agenda for today's team meeting. --Lydia Pintscher (WMDE) (talk) 07:57, 18 April 2017 (UTC)

Don't look editing of an item when communicating with the server

I'm just in the process of deleting low quality suicide rate (P3864) values that I entered. The fact that I have to wait a few seconds after I delete a value to delete the next one is annoying. It would be a lot more fun if all the communication with the server would happen in the background and I could simply continue deleting the other values. Is it merely users doing these one-by-one or a problem that needs fixing?
--- Jura 04:06, 20 April 2017 (UTC).
This is actually users deleting all sitelinks by hand via the regular user interface (here on Wikidata, not via the widget on Wikipedia), in order to change the subject of an item (I assume). Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 14:55, 21 April 2017 (UTC)
If this is done through the javascript feature that deletes these sitelinks all at once, it could ask for confirmation if it's being used by new editors.
--- Jura 10:47, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
I forgot that we have an AbuseFilter for this. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 12:36, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
Maybe Special:AbuseFilter/71 should be changed to actually warn users that they are (potentially) doing wrong? On the other hand, we need to be sure they restore the sitelinks they have removed if they realize their mistake. Cheers, Hoo man (talk) 07:20, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Problems in writing

Hello.

  1. In some languages, when adding aliases to "Also known as" whe writing be "left to right", reverse correct
  2. Why can not we include special pages except "LanguageStats"?
  3. What is the reason of the slow opening of Special:Tags

Please resolve.Thank you --ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 09:02, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

@ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: Hello, thanks for your questions. Unfortunately, I'm not sure that I really understand what you mean.
  1. Do you have more specific examples? Which items, which statements, which languages?
  2. I don't understand your questions. Which special pages you want to add, and where?
  3. Indeed, it is a bit slow to load, because there are a lot of tags and a lot of changes.
Lea Lacroix (WMDE) (talk) 15:16, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
Interestingly, the task about slow Special:Tags has been closed very recently. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 15:34, 27 April 2017 (UTC)
  1. Arabic, Persian and others
  2. I want to include "Special:Statistics" in my page
