DescriptionEvent celebrated by a holiday or festival
Data typeItem
Domain(a class somewhat broader than holiday (Q1445650), in a branche of the subclass tree than needs some cleanup)
Example
Motivation

Currently, there is no direct connection between Independence Day (Q86591) and United States Declaration of Independence (Q127912) and that sounds like a problem.

If we also want to make the connection the other way around, we might want a new property, or just use (feast day (P841) (but P841 is currently used for humans only, where the idea seems slightly different) . Zolo (talk) 09:40, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
Support this seems reasonable to have. Inverse might be called "celebrated on" if we need it. ArthurPSmith (talk) 12:18, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Thryduulf, ArthurPSmith: I changed the label to "Commemorate", it seems to cover pretty much every usecase. --Zolo (talk) 10:48, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not every holiday celebrates an event. In Germany for example the 1 May is called "Tag der Arbeit" which is a day for workers rights.  Oppose until name/description/domain of the property are clear. ChristianKl (talk) 19:00, 12 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@ChristianKl: Let's just remove "event" from the description. Can be a person, an event or any other thing. But "thing commemorated" does not sound too good.
A more tricky point may be: should we allow the item to be something else than an event. For instance, a war memorial commemorates a war. --Zolo (talk) 10:48, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
