--- Jura 07:59, 26 August 2016 (UTC) - @Physikerwelt: - please can you add an example. Thryduulf (talk) 10:13, 26 August 2016 (UTC)
- @Thryduulf: done. I also added the alternative to this proposal as suggested by TomT0m. @TomT0m: Can you check if I did it correct?--Physikerwelt (talk) 12:47, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Oppose. Use the MSC ID of the suject on the subject item. The MSC classification is a source for our own classification statements, we should not fork their database here. author TomT0m / talk page 09:19, 3 September 2016 (UTC)Support wrong interpretation of the proposal.- Support I think this is a good idea. There are quite a number of controlled vocabularies and classification schemes out there like MSC, and it would be helpful for wikidata to provide a central translation point where that's possible. @TomT0m: can you explain what you are suggesting? We don't seem to have a MSC ID property that could apply to subject articles, how would you do it? ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:45, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: Make a MSC ID proposal instead of this one. And think of an equivalent of this relation in Wikidata if instance of (P31), part of (P361), studied by Search or something existing here sourced by MSC don't fit. author TomT0m / talk page 13:54, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- wouldn't main subject (P921) be the natural property to use on a work that was about "Quantum Chaos"? And studied in (P2579) etc. as you seem to be suggesting? I think that's more helpful to have each of those link to the wikidata item "Quantum Chaos" instead of having each work in wikidata on the subject given a "MSC ID" of "81Q50". After all, there is PACS (physics classification scheme) which would have a different code meaning the same thing, and LoC codes, MeSH perhaps, etc. etc. Doing it as this proposal suggests should lead to more logical consistency: the ID's aren't spread all over the place, they are attached directly to the relevant concepts as wikidata items. ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:03, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- Maybe it's a good fit, not sure yet. But yes, you get the idea indeed.
Anyway, just created Wikidata:Property_proposal/MSC ID(@ArthurPSmith, ChristianKl, Physikerwelt: author TomT0m / talk page 14:07, 7 October 2016 (UTC) - Looks like I read everything upside down. author TomT0m / talk page 14:41, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- Either way is fine for me, as long as it's done consistently. For my research, I have been using MSC, PACS, and some AMS classifications. However, those classificatons are not always perfect. I have been comunicting with people from Zentralblatt Mathematik (ZBmath) and they see a lot of misclassified scientific articles. --Physikerwelt (talk) 09:48, 12 October 2016 (UTC)
