Motivation
[edit]There are about 900 Minecraft mods listed on Wikidata so far. Quite a few newer Minecraft mods have a Modrinth listing, so it would make sense to have a dedicated property for that. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tomodachi94 (talk • contribs).
Discussion
[edit]Support Just noting that this property can be used for plugins, shaders, data packs, resource packs, and modpacks hosted on Modrinth as well, not just mods! EpicPupper (talk) 17:18, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- @EpicPupper and @Poslovitch: I've updated the proposal to include the types of content listed above. I've ignored the plugins segment, since they are just server side mods: I think they should just have the depends on software (P1547) property combined with the server engine, like Bukkit (Q32149869). Should we make that distinction? --Tomodachi94 (talk) 00:14, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Tomodachi94 Well, I used to be a Minecraft plugin developer. What I can say is that they’re considered fundamentally different from actual mods by the community (since they’re server side). I don’t know if they should or even are notable enough to be put on Wikidata though; but if they were, I would say they should be their own class of items. Poslovitch (talk) 00:20, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Tomodachi94: (edit conflict) Mods are distinct from plugins; they operate on different software. Mods can be used with Forge, Fabric, etc (both server and client versions), but plugins can be used with Bukkit servers and their descendants (Spigot, Paper, etc). Some hybrid servers exist (allowing for both plugins and mods). As such, plugins are a separate concept from mods; Minecraft mod (Q111369260) should probably have the plugin component split off. EpicPupper (talk) 00:21, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- Reflecting the discussion in sibling comments, I've added Minecraft server plugin (Q116908669) as a valid domain. --Tomodachi94 (talk) 00:31, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Notified participants of WikiProject Video games as this might be relevant to them. --Tomodachi94 (talk) 22:56, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Support so long as EpicPupper's point is taken into consideration vis-a-vis allowed classes. OmegaFallon (talk) 23:00, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
Support, same here - as long as any other minecraft-related UGC classes that we already have on Wikidata are taken into account. --Poslovitch (talk) 00:03, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
Support since this seems like a useful property for mods. Note that it also applies to Minecraft data pack (Q116908523). – The preceding unsigned comment was added by BEANS X2 (talk • contribs).
- I've added Minecraft data pack (Q116908523) to the allowed types. I created it but forgot to add it haha. Tomodachi94 (talk) 19:13, 26 February 2023 (UTC)
- I've marked this proposal as ready, since it's been a week since it was proposed and there are no outstanding issues with this proposal. --Tomodachi94 (talk) 19:13, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
@Tomodachi94, EpicPupper, OmegaFallon, Poslovitch, BEANS X2: Done as Modrinth project ID (P11635).--Stevenliuyi (talk) 11:57, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
