Motivation

Authority Control-type identifier which links to an excellent and useful academic database. Would be used on entries for philosophers linking to their work and citations of their work. Periodic publications like journals are handled separately. Examples: http://philpapers.org/rec/HARLEF , http://philpapers.org/rec/DRAFF , and http://philpapers.org/rec/BIEHOT-2, See also: Wikidata:Property proposal/PhilPapers profile, Wikidata:Property proposal/PhilPapers record, Wikidata:Property proposal/PhilPapers publication, Wikidata:Property proposal/PhilPapers topicJustin (koavf)TCM 01:36, 8 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Comment @Koavf: are you planning to add items for these articles? It would be nice if you could either add an example item to start or find one that is already there in wikidata for the "example" part of this. Same issue on the "publication" property proposal. @ArthurPSmith: I was trying to find one for existing items but I don't know of a philosophy paper that has an entry in Wikidata now. I'm sure there are some journals--linking to one at Wikidata:Property proposal/PhilPapers publication. —Justin (koavf)TCM 19:36, 30 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Koavf: If there's no item on Wikidata for which the property can be used it's not needed. You could however create items and then bring an example. ChristianKl (talk) 19:01, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Pigsonthewing, ArthurPSmith: Do you support that the item get's created in the current form? ChristianKl (talk) 10:04, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks, I added this as an example. Looks good to me then! ArthurPSmith (talk) 13:36, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Support but with reservations. One problem with PhilPapers is that it is all too eager to match users up with publications. If you are, say, a philosophy graduate student who just so happens to have the improbable name "Willard Van Orman Quine" and you were to sign up for PhilPapers, the PhilPapers site might start suggesting that you wrote a great number of philosophical books and papers which were written by the actually notable (but very sadly dead) W.V.O. Quine. In the case of living people, one must be very careful to ensure that a person's PhilPapers account is actually controlled by the right person. I have no opinion on the technical merits of this property, and in general, it seems like a useful enough database to link to, but do beware. —Tom Morris (talk) 17:52, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
