TIPLOC code

Motivation
[edit]A timing point location (Q128038266) is a place on the UK railway network that is used to construct train movement schedules, where train movements are automatically recorded so that they can be compared to movements that have been scheduled.
For one of these locations, one can consult a website such as eg TrackIT or Real Time Trains that draw data from a Network Rail live feed, to see what train movements are scheduled and what has actually occurred. This is similar to the usefulness and functionality of UK railway station code (P4755) for stations, but the coverage of TIPLOC codes goes much wider, extending eg to junctions, marshalling yards, and other railway locations. The websites also track the routing and progress of trains (eg example) in terms of these locations.
It would therefore be useful to be able to indicate whether an item here is a timing point location (Q128038266) with a TIPLOC (Q128037452), as an important identifier, and to facilitate access to such sites; and also to help track how much coverage of such locations we have on wikidata.
(Note that in some cases codes may exist for part of a location, but it should be possible to find a code for the location as a whole -- eg for London Victoria station (Q985210) codes VICTRIC and VICTRIE exist for the Brighton and Chatham sides of the station respectively, but VICTRIA should be preferred, as encompassing the station as a whole.) -- Jheald (talk) 17:46, 29 July 2024 (UTC)
