I'm not sure if the id should be "UMR8627" or just "8627". Both GRID and CNRS format it as "UMR8627", so maybe it would be better that way? Feel free to edit. − Pintoch (talk) 12:06, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

- Support, good idea. Nomen ad hoc (talk) 12:51, 12 November 2017 (UTC).
- Support It's fine to import from the GRID records but I don't think it should be considered the authoritative source for these. That would presumably be somewhere at CNRS. Here's a list for mathematics. Note that the same identifier seems to be used for several categories, not just UMR's - there's also UMS, UMI, GDR and several other types, so maybe the label on this property should be something more generic like CNRS research group identifier? - Yes I think the authoritative source is https://web-ast.dsi.cnrs.fr/l3c/owa/annuaire.recherche (but it's not very machine-friendly AFAICT). You are right that the scope of the property could be broadened, I have updated it in this regard. − Pintoch (talk) 13:59, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Support looks good. I think it's an excellent idea to collect more identifiers for university research group (Q28863779) of all types. Runner1928 (talk) 17:21, 12 November 2017 (UTC)

- Which institution creates these identifiers? If there a specific insitution, can you put the full name of that institution in the description? ChristianKl (✉) 23:02, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Support provided that the "CNRS" is referenced in the description, as it is responsible for this number attribution. GAllegre (talk) 23:06, 12 November 2017 (UTC)
- Support. See also French national research structure ID (P3016) (with only ~20 uses). You can use scanR in order to found this other ID (for example, https://scanr.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/recherche?query=UMR7315). Tubezlob (🙋) 20:35, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
- Question I'm all for external IDs but if these are aggregated in GRID and it includes all CNRS ids plus more, isn't it enough (and better) to have just GRID id? --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 17:39, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
- GRID only includes the relatively large independent research institutes. There are a lot of smaller research groups that have assigned numbers that don't qualify for GRID's criteria. See the math list above, most of which is not in GRID. Whether they are notable enough to be included in Wikidata is another question of course. ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:50, 16 November 2017 (UTC)
