Motivation[edit]

WikiKids (Q4875708) (in dutch) and French Vikidia (Q79419012) are the two biggest encyclopedia for children. Albeit independent of Vikidia (Q3051048), WikiKids share interwiki links with several Vikidia edition (Q79411422) : Spanish Vikidia (Q79419015), French Vikidia (Q79419012), English Vikidia (Q79419019), Italian Vikidia (Q79419017)... which allready have their Wikidata property.

A Wikikids property will allow to better feed these interwiki links, make queries, links articles with a Commons category or any Wikidata data.  – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Astirmays (talk • contribs) at 13:25, 30 September 2023 (UTC).[reply]

Op Vikidia vroeg de oprichter waarom WikiKids nog geen een Wikidata-property had. Daarom zou ik graag WikiKids ook een Wikidata-property willen laten krijgen, net als alle Vikidia's (zie ook hier).   •  Support, but I suggest that instead of spending countless hours on redundant work you just do machine translation of simple.wiki articles within the encyclopedia's scope (e.g. using DeepL and modified). Also sooner or later there should probably be a field for children-oriented wikis instead so we don't have one property for each language. --Prototyperspective (talk) 13:38, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Well you raise a big question. Actually, the wikipedias are far from being just translations one from another, for some reason I guess... Does simple.wiki fit so well for children? Whatever, it is scarcely displayed as for children. There are a few considerations on this subject on m:Wikikids/Relation to Simple English Wikipedia ("Wikikids" here is the name of a proposal for a new Wikimedia sister project, not the existing Wikikids.nl), and you can also read [2] and vikidia:en:User:Astirmays/Vikidia, an equivalent of Wikipedia for children and the information and participation rights. What do you mean by "a field for children-oriented wikis"? Would it be one unique property for the encyclopedia for children, and a language qualifier?     One of the main reasons is simply that machine translation has until now been very inaccurate and introduces a lot of errors due to people not translating manually or writing anew. But let's not discuss this here. I just mentioned simple.wiki – people are also free to inefficiently spend time writing articles completely anew instead of only parts of them or revising them. (Maybe also full simple wiki articles could be included as is for an English version.) Interesting link, thanks.
