Motivation

I believe this property is missing. There's a number of certifications available on Wikidata, but currently I cannot see how to link any objects that bear this certification. approved by (P790) is the nearest I could find, but I think it's not quite suitable. Suggested English alias: "has certification" If I am overseeing something, please let me know. (Also, I am not quite sure how reference/subject item is meant in this template. Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't know about this property. However, I do not think it fits the purpose, as its object is restricted to industries/professions/people - a certification can be applied to anything - and its subject is a profession/skill, and not restricted to certifications. Also, it doesn't really state that someone/-thing has this qualification, it merely states that this is relevant to the object. -- H005 (talk) 08:07, 2 August 2020 (UTC)

If this is created, would the values Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (Q5894355), agrégation de philosophie (Q2827292) and lieutenant's examination (Q108168870) be moved to this property (all three are samples at Property:P5021#P1855)? Or would this property just be used for "certifications" that don't include any exam or assessment? Maybe some of the samples in this proposal would need to be revised. I agree with initial point that approved by (P790) isn't suitable. --- Jura 05:50, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

 Support There are probably cases where people have a certification but weren't formally tested. For instance the people in the creation of a given certification, or if a university gives a certification to someone for the person achievements in a field. That said, I don't know any real world example as I'm not familiar enough with many of these certification processes. There is probably the situations where a person that has a given certification can apply to get get another equivalent one (for instance one that works in another country) without having to be tested at all due to the similarities of both certifications.
