Motivation
[edit]As we did Portable Game Notation (P5286) some time ago, maybe we should have this one too. @Yair rand, ArthurPSmith, Jura1, ערן, Yoavd, ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2: Please help complete the proposal. (Add your motivation for this property here.) --- Jura 13:09, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- I support this request. Portable Game Notation (P5286) is useful to present chess game, but many times articles present a specific static interesting chess position in game. Additionally this is useful for articles about chess problems. Eran (talk) 21:17, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- i believe this can be useful, e.g., for articles such as those in en:Category:Chess problems. peace - קיפודנחש (talk) 15:11, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

- Weak support Hard to see that much use for this on Wikidata items -- possibly on an item for a chess game, to record a final positions where a player resigned or a draw was forced. In which case a object of statement has role (P3831) qualifier might be "final position". Or perhaps to show the outcome of fool's mate (Q753896) (though it would seem superfluous given what's already there). Are there other cases of chess game (Q2683596) or chess opening (Q103632) where it could perhaps be useful? What would relevant values of object of statement has role (P3831) (or any other qualifiers) be in such cases, to identify what the indicated position represented? I suppose instances of chess problem (Q211115) would be of relevance too, per User:קיפודנחש above, though currently we don't seem to have any. On Commons perhaps it could be used to describe a chess position diagram (c:Category:Chess diagrams), though as the hatnote there declares "en:Template:Chess diagram, which can be copied to other projects, makes it unnecessary to upload any more chess diagrams." So I see only rather limited application for this. @Jura1: How do you see this being used? Jheald (talk) 23:34, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
- Beyond what's already mentioned, I think all media showing diagrams on Commons could use it. There are also plenty of pages on WikiBooks might use it. --- Jura 15:02, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

- Weak support per James in part; in the absence of a specific property for representing Chess960 starting positions this property could be useful for those. Mahir256 (talk) 17:00, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
