Denomination is an essential caracteristic of any numismatic description of coin (Q41207) or coin type (Q113813711). We already have face value (P3934) to express the value of currency, but it can't be apply for a lot of coins for example in Antiquity where the value of the coin or type of coin is never inscribed and the the value of metal in the coin is the denomination. At the moment, people are mostly using subclass of (P279) and a bit instance of (P31) to express the value of ancient coins, but it would be better if we have a specific property for this.

Furthermore, it would also be possible to map this property to Nomisma, a leading platform in numismatic, which already have this kind of property in their ontology. Liber008 (talk) 16:12, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't this be in "instance of", like I did here? A single coin is definitely not a "coin type", right? --Tolanor (talk) 17:11, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Tolanor Actually, this item is a type of coin (RRC 415) and should be model as such. The Nomisma infrastructure seems to have some issues today, but when it will be working, you can see here that it represent a type of coin in Crawford's work: Roman Republican Coinage. For example there is some of them for sale here. --Liber008 (talk) 17:43, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, I didn't dig enough. Then the proposal makes sense. --Tolanor (talk) 18:22, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
