rank insignia
[edit]Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Person
Not done
Description | The highest rank insignia (epaulette, shoulder marks) achieved by the person unless a reduction in rank occurred (whether by punishment, voluntary, or as part of joining another military unit or military service). The rank insignia being awarded posthumously, may be noted. In cases where the person held different ranks insignia in different armies, multiple ranks insignia should be specified with dates and country noted for each. |

Discussion
- Hi Niklitov, I have removed
|status=ready
because this parameter must only be set once enough support has been gathered for the proposal (and at least one week after the creation of the proposal). − Pintoch (talk) 11:17, 26 February 2018 (UTC) - Support David (talk) 16:12, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose We already have military rank (P410), which appears to be the same concept. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 00:06, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- Comment Dear Andy Mabbett! Sorry! Rank insignia — Media, military rank (P410) — Item (property). Please find example: w:ru:Клиентов, Виктор Алексеевич. We need an option: Rank + Rank insignia = Captain (captain (Q27231602)) — Niklitov (talk) 01:21, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- In that case, the media file is a property of the rank, not of the individual person. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:35, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- Comment Dear Andy Mabbett! Sorry! Rank insignia — Media, military rank (P410) — Item (property). Please find example: w:ru:Клиентов, Виктор Алексеевич. We need an option: Rank + Rank insignia = Captain (captain (Q27231602)) — Niklitov (talk) 01:21, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- Comment the examples need to be fixed, it is not clear what you are suggesting this property would do. If the value is a commons media file, then you need to supply specific commons media files as values for examples. ArthurPSmith (talk) 18:59, 27 February 2018 (UTC)
- Comment Yes, the value is a commons media file: Database: c:Category:Rank insignia. For examples: Alexey Kaledin (Q944910) → General of the Cavalry (Q50072572) + and General of the Cavalry (Q2624074) + . In Wikipedia: w:ru:Жуков, Георгий Константинович (please find Marshal of the Soviet Union Uniform shoulder strap (1955–1990) in Infobox military person and Templates) etc. I can give many examples. — Niklitov (talk) 00:19, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. military rank (P410) + icon (P2910) is enough for display insignia. —putnik 15:42, 28 February 2018 (UTC)
- Comment About PetScan need P "rank insignia" (for packet processing). I tested icon (P2910) — too small size shoulder straps: . Therefore there is a property service ribbon image (P2425) (service ribbon image). — Niklitov (talk) 12:26, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Ok, now that I think I understand this better, the relationship with these insignia images belongs on the military rank item, NOT on each person who might have had that rank. And it sounds like we might already have properties to link military ranks with commons images? Anyway, putting the image on the person like this is definitely wrong. ArthurPSmith (talk) 16:25, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- Comment 1. That not only military rank item, but civil rank item too. 2. Why putting the image on the person? Now we putting award received (P166) (award received) → service ribbon image (P2425) (service ribbon image). Right? This is the same action. Where is the wrong? — Niklitov (talk) 16:59, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
- Comment I understood. Rank insignia property not for Person infocard or Infobox military person! Rank insignia property for rank (Q4189293) or title (Q216353). rank (Q4189293) or title (Q216353) putting in the Person infocard and Infobox military person! The property should work just like award received (P166) (award received) → service ribbon image (P2425) (service ribbon image). Example: Victor Klientov (Q21100735). The Rank insignia property is called, not inserted into the infocard (Infobox). — Niklitov (talk) 18:26, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
Not done No consensus. Micru (talk) 11:26, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
- Dear Micru. Why "not done"?? Discussion continues, the answers to my comment has not been received. — Niklitov (talk) 09:40, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- Niklitov, after 1 month without any answer, and 3 oppose votes, I think it is safe to mark this proposal as "not done". If you want you can submit it again. I recommend to use better examples, because this proposal has Commons Media data type, but the examples provided are items. Micru (talk) 10:47, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
