Motivation[edit]
This property represents the handedness and configuration of a string instrument (Q1798603), which can be different from the handedness (P552) of a person. The subjects handedness (Q2421902) and laterality (Q10927834) pertain to people only, so the subject of this property is chirality (Q3734365) since it applies to the instrument . This property is meant to be a way to document the entries on the en:List of musicians who play left-handed Wikipedia page. Mordomo (talk) 13:45, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
Just to clarify, this property would be used as a qualifier on the instrument (P1303) property. For instance, instrument (P1303) → guitar (Q6607), qualifier: string instrument handedness → left-handed string instrument. This way the property applies specifically to the instrument, and not to any other instruments the musician may play where this property would not make sense. Oppose handedness (P552) does not have property scope (P5314), so this property can be used in the relevant Item. In addition, there are not only string instruments, there are also trumpets, etc. Finally, the examples provided do not correspond to the datatype. single-value constraint (Q19474404) can be removed from handedness (P552) if the distinction is made between a left-handed player playing right-handed and vice versa. —Eihel (talk) 20:14, 10 May 2020 (UTC)- Oppose Should be done via some qualifier for handedness (P552) to express this relationship.
