Emijrpbot 7[edit]
Emijrpbot (talk • contribs • new items • new lexemes • SUL • Block log • User rights log • User rights • xtools)
Operator: Emijrp (talk • contribs • logs)
Task/s:
It adds references imported from Wikimedia project (P143) to property image (P18) when the image is found in English Wikipedia. Manual example.
Code: github
Function details:
The bot explores all items that have a set value for image (P18). It searches the image filename in the proper English Wikipedia article text using the sitelink. If the image filename string is found, it adds a imported from Wikimedia project (P143) = English Wikipedia (Q328) reference to the statement. If the image isn't found in English Wikipedia, bot could try other sitelinks.
The bot doesn't add image values to items. It just works on previously defined image (P18) statements.
According to Wikidata:Database reports/List of properties/Top100, there are 1.7 million image (P18) in use.

- @Emijrp: what is the purpose of this? If an image has a reference already, do you still plan to add this reference? ArthurPSmith (talk) 15:46, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- @ArthurPSmith: The purpose is that every statement in Wikidata has at least 1 reference (see stats). If an image has a reference already, the bot will skip it. Emijrp (talk) 17:11, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- Need also the reverse: we have a lot of statements (not P18) with imported from Wikimedia project (P143) = English Wikipedia (Q328) or other wiki but the page don't exist more. Maybe is more useful delete this reference. --ValterVB (talk) 19:11, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- @ValterVB: That could be done with other bot. But, if the statements were imported in the past, and now the page is deleted because notability (or whatever), still the statement origin is interesting. I am not sure if we should deleted the "imported from" or find a new one. Emijrp (talk) 21:44, 23 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

- Unless the statements are being imported by a bot, adding any reference to image (P18) is not important. I'd recommend focusing on adding real references where needed. This is just doing nothing. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 17:52, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- @Matěj Suchánek: One of the most common uses for P18 are portraits of people. How is checking that the portrait is about the subject "doing nothing"? Emijrp (talk) 19:05, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm afraid this could be a bad precedent for other properties where want to have real sources. But if you want to spend time on this... Matěj Suchánek (talk) 19:40, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

- Comment WDFIST is a good tool to import images. I don't think adding "imported from" to images added through WDFIST is a good idea.

- @Jura1: I understand what you mean, but I think that "imported from" is different to "imported with". Where do images in WDFIST come from? By the way, I think that WDFIST should add a source about it. Emijrp (talk) 19:05, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- They come from Commons, but this is actually defined in the datatype.

- @ArthurPSmith, ValterVB, Jura1, Matěj Suchánek, Emijrp: are we fine here? This discussion is also holding Wikidata:Requests for permissions/Bot/Emijrpbot 8 and needs to be resolved somehow.--Ymblanter (talk) 07:09, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not opposing and let others decide. Matěj Suchánek (talk) 15:02, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- I'm not opposing either, but I think the usefulness is somewhat marginal. ArthurPSmith (talk) 15:20, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- One doubt: you add "imported from " but you are not sure about this, we can say only that "the image is in " Or you can check if the image is really imported by? --ValterVB (talk) 16:56, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- You are correct. Emijrp (talk) 18:00, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
- I think for any other property it wouldn't really matter to have multiple "imported from" sources, but images are generally not bot imported, so suggesting the contrary somehow undermines the effort made by people selecting them and adding them.

OK, there isn't a clear support for this bot task, so I decline the request. Emijrp (talk) 09:36, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
