Legobot[edit]
Basically the bot uses a database query to find wikidata items where the enwiki link is a redirect, figures out the target and replaces it. An example edit. I've already encountered a few times where the redirect target conflicted with another item, so it will log those to a /Conflicts page. It will also ignore any redirect to a section, and log that as a conflict. Note that this currently only works for enwiki links, eventually I'd like to expand this to all wikis. - Yeah, 500 is great. You caught me sleeping ;) - I've been looking through the bots contribs, and they look fantastic, with the list of conflicts being very helpful. Question in which languages will your bot look for redirects? how does your bot see if e.g. an article got deleted and changed to an redirect? or do you only change articles where the page got moved? --Sk!d (talk) 10:25, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

- Right now it is only looking for enwiki links, however do I wish to expand this to multiple languages. It is currently doing a database query, joining wikidatawiki_p and enwiki_p to get a list of all linked redirects. It can't tell why/how the redirect was created, however based on my testing/spotchecking I've found that half are where the page was moved (so a bypass is ok), and the others are when the article was redirected to another. In the second case though, the target page already has an article (all tests so far have resulted in that), so wikidata throws an error, and it will get listed as a conflict for human review.
- Before adding in support for multiple languages, I need to make some upstream modifications to pywikibot so it may take a while. Legoktm (talk) 23:52, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Comment This is good to have, but I'm not sure can I trust 100% that your bot does not make any mistakes. E.g. this edit changed YouTube's channel to person. Btw, this is not your bot's mistake (there is already some links to person), because here should be two different items, about YouTube channel (Nigahiga) and about person (Ryan Higa). But I think that label should be updated too, and description is in this case wrong after the new link. --Stryn (talk) 06:46, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
- I'm not sure how to avoid a edit like that. I talked with Merlissimo on IRC about implementing a few checks (checking that the local langlinks match up with the wikidata ones), however for that specific one, en:Ryan Higa links to de:Nigahiga, so the bot wouldn't be able to avoid it. - I don't think it's a problem with the bot specifically, since it isn't actually adding bad info but just keeping it there. Not much can be done though, other than people passing by and fixing it once Wikidata goes live on more projects. Ajraddatz (Talk) 19:40, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
- How long is your bot waiting until he corrects a link? or is this done nearly instantly? I hope your bot waits a little bit (~1h) to give users the opportunity to fix there link by there self, if they move a page. --Sk!d (talk) 12:11, 27 January 2013 (UTC)
- Your suggestion makes sense, but users are already invited to fix wikidata links after they move the page; do the bot's changes make it harder? On it.wiki it was noted that until bug 36729 is fixed every page move means that the moved page loses its interwikis, which is very unfortunate. For the same reason, it would perhaps be better if the bot was tested with hu/it/he wikipedia first... --Nemo 09:31, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- The reason I started with enwiki is so I could debug in a language I know :P I'm reasonably confident that the bot won't screw up now, so I'm open to running it on other wikis now. Legoktm (talk) 09:46, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
- @Sk!d: Currently there is no delay. (Technically you can count the amount of time it takes to run the query as a delay.) I can add one in if wanted, but per Nemo's comment's I'm not sure it's an advantage. Legoktm (talk) 09:46, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
