Hey guys. I'm volunteering myself to serve as an oversighter on Wikidata. I understand that the RfC has yet to close but, apart from the fact that most users have participated and consensus has started to settle, phase two has gone live on the English Wikipedia and, this Wednesday, it will go live everywhere else. Therefore, as this request will be opened for two weeks, I consider that it is safe to open it today, instead of waiting for the RfC to be closed in two or three days. I identified to the Wikimedia Foundation, and I'm very familiar with both the oversight and privacy policies, as well as the Foundation's policy regarding access to non-public data. Regards. — ΛΧΣ21 02:49, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Neutral I like you, and I certainly woudln't have nudged you into becoming an admin if I didn't trust you, but I'm worried about the lack of credentials in your nomination statement. I will reconsider this vote pending your answer to my questions below. Sven Manguard Wha? 03:10, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Neutral The stats provided by MF-W in this discussion do not indicate a need for local oversighters for now, in my opinion. Anyway, it is the community's decision so I'm not going to oppose here. Regards, Vogone talk 05:37, 23 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Support Overall a good candidate. Not the best however Hahc21 has knowledge of the tool and policies. With it some good sysop knowledge on other wikis, not so much here but it will help him. John F. Lewis (talk) 20:48, 24 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Abstain -- I would love to support, but I do not know any of these users long enough, to support them to handle sensitive issues of this kind. But I also fail to find anything that imply that they would use the tools in a wrong manner. Therefor I abstain from "support" and "oppose". -- Lavallen (block) 09:46, 27 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Neutral I might trust Hahc's judgement, but I've always felt that Hahc is something of a hat collector. I'm not sure if this is enough to oppose, however; this is more of a gut feeling as opposed to a diff-supported argument. Hurricanefan24 (talk) 17:07, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

- Questions from Sven Manguard for all candidates
1. Do you have OTRS access? If so, for how long and what queues?
- A. Thanks for the questions. Yes, I do have OTRS access since some months ago, when I saw a notice asking for new volunteers and I decided to join. I have access to most permission queues, as well as for info-en, info-es and info-pt. I may apply for the sister project queues soon, since I did not ask for that one when I applied.
2. What advanced permissions (admin, 'crat, CU, OS, or any group such as ArbCom that would grant you CU or OS) do you have on this and all other Wikimedia projects? For how long have you had these rights?
- A. Honestly, Wikidata is the first place where I was ever granted an advanced permission. After that, I recently became an administrator and bureaucrat of the Spanish Wikinews, and that's all. I don't hold many advanced permissions elsewhere, but I make sure I diligently use the ones I'm entrusted to help the community as much as I can, and I do the same with the tiny rights I have been granted over time in other projects like the English and Spanish Wikipedias, Commons, and Wikivoyage :)

3. Oversighters from a few of the larger WMF projects have faced an increased risk of harassment on and off wiki, and increased pressure to disclose more information regarding a suppressed edit, i.e. who suppressed it, what the logged reason was, etc. Is this a possibility that you have considered? In the second scenario, what would your response be?
- A. I do have considered the consequences of holding such permissions, and I find myself unworried about it. In response to the second part of the question, for the purposes of transparency, I may be willing to disclose general information related to why the edit was suppressed, if doing so won't reveal which the suppressed information was. For example, if someone posted their home address, and I suppressed it, I may be willing to say that "what was suppressed was personal information", which specifies the topic without revealing in detail, than to say "they guy posted his home address", which would defy the very purpose of oversight.

4. Wikidata is multilingual. Which languages may be used in requests to you for oversighting? Which additional languages would you be able to oversight? What will you do if you receive a request for oversighting a text which is in a language you don't understand?
- A. My native language is Spanish. Therefore, I am very capable to understand most romanic languages, and I have a considerable level of understanding of Portuguese, and moderate level in French and Italian. So, I'd handle request on any of those languages, as well as on english, maybe german, dutch and its derivates (Although I may consult with a native speaker of any of those like Vogone to help me out in case it's not something that clearly meets the oversight requirements). If the request includes text that it's not on a language I understand, I'd use Google Translate to do a preliminary check of the content. If I consider that the information may need oversight, but I'm not sure, I'd revdelete the information and (i) consult another oversighter, or (ii) send an email to the mailing list to see what the rest of the team thinks about it.

5. When is it appropriate to hide a username from the public using hideuser? Why?
- A: Mostly for abusive names, such as those containing blatant attacks or harassment. As there is no other way to properly hide such names from public view, oversight might be performed in sensitive cases.
6. When is it appropriate to delete log entries (deletelogentry)? Why?
- A: They can also be hidden as long as their content falls within the boundaries of what oversight is used for, i.e., they contain previously undisclosed personal information, or represent blatant attacks. There are other cases on which logs are hidden, but those fall within the Deletion policy using the RevDel tool.
7. When is it appropriate to hide abuse filter entires (abusefilter-hide-log)? Why?
- A: Similar to what I answered about log entries, those can be hidden as long as their content falls within the boundaries of what oversight is used for. As there is no other way to hide those logs, the same reasoning for usernames applies here.
