Hello everyone! First of all, some may be wondering why we need a third oversighter, now that we have the data on almost a year of use of OS on this wiki. I'll admit that in terms of oversight activity, things are irregular: some months there is very little, and some months there's quite a few requests. However, speaking for myself, I am no longer as active as I used to be, and since Stryn resigned, we no longer have coverage in European timezones. We believe that adding a third oversighter will add additional coverage, both in terms of differing timezones, as well as for helping us handle requests when matters in real-life call us away, which is starting to happen more often.
Anyway, I would like to co-nominate SPQRobin as our third oversighter. He has been an admin since January August 2013, and is very active on this wiki. He can provide additional coverage for European timezones, and is very active on IRC; also, he is a native speaker of Dutch and has intermediate knowledge of French and German, besides serving on the WMF Language Committee. Finally, he is trusted on Wikimedia as a steward, admin/bureaucrat on Wikimedia Incubator, and also has
+2 rights. Thus, I think that he would be a good choice for our third oversighter. --Rschen7754 01:28, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Co-nomination
SPQRobin is a prolific contributor to Wikidata both adding and maintaining data and performing admin tasks. He is free of controversy, focussing on the important part of the project, and has experience with advanced tools such as oversight as a steward. I think he is an excellent choice for oversight rights. We could use another! Ajraddatz (talk) 01:38, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- Candidate acceptance
I accept the nominations. I think I can help indeed, as a European, with the oversight task. Thank you Rschen7754 and Ajraddatz for nominating me! :) FYI, I might be not that available in the first week of the RfP (to e.g. answer questions), but I will have more time in the second week. Support If he can be trusted to be a steward, he can obviously be trusted with the lower-level position of oversighter. --Jakob (talk) 13:42, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]- Blatant error in the nomination: Admin since August, not January 2013. --MF-W 10:41, 31 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

- Thought any stewards can do oversight. No? --Gryllida 13:49, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- If they are not local oversighters, they are then required to forward it to local oversighters first. Only if local oversighters are unavailable after contact attempts may they do OS, excepting emergencies.--Jasper Deng (talk) 13:56, 2 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- @Gryllida: No, they can't. They need to make themselves oversighter first. Vogone (talk) 21:30, 3 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Don't you or any OSes think this permission will no longer useful next year per bugs 32628 and 60373? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 02:03, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
- @Liuxinyu970226: No, there remains an enhanced revisiondelete function that still hides revisions from admins, although reversibly. This was done long ago...--Jasper Deng (talk) 02:51, 4 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
