Project background and goals

[edit]

Throughout the summer and early fall, we will use data from the Cooperative Children's Book Center at the University of Wisconsin, Madison for a series of Wikidata Working Hours. Each event will provide an opportunity to try out different Wikidata-related skills and tools while working with a finite dataset. Topics covered in the Working Hours will include: cleaning data with OpenRefine, reconciling data with OpenRefine, creating items for individual authors, corporate entities, and works/editions, batch uploading items using OpenRefine and QuickStatements, and writing SPARQL queries.

Cooperative Children's Book Center

[edit]

The data we are working with for this project comes from the Cooperative Children's Book Center diversity statistics for children's books. Our dataset consists of children's books published in 2022 written by BIPOC authors, LGBTQ authors, and authors with disabilities.

Data left to work on

[edit]

The project series has concluded, but we still have some contributors, publishers, and works/editions to add to Wikidata. You can follow the steps on these pages to continue participating:
