Introduction
[edit]Pinakes (Q63953164) is the most authoritative source on Greek manuscripts on the web. Maintained by the Institut de recherche et d'histoire des textes (IRHT), is is used as an authority file, resource for bibliography and node for other databases, catalogs and data repositories (digital or analog).
On Wikipedia (in various language editions, predominantly in English, German and Polish) many articles on Greek manuscripts have already been written, especially on the more famous or important specimens like the Cotton Genesis, the richly illustrated Vienna Dioscorides or the Venetus A. Although it is outside the scope of Wikipedia to attempt and describe all Greek manuscripts in sufficient quality, Wikidata can do just that.

Progress and documentation: Matching Pinakes with Wikidata
[edit]This is a collection of findings during our matching of the Pinakes (Q63953164) identifiers to Wikidata. As of now it is just an unsorted agglomeration of isolated points. Before feeding them back to Pinakes, we need to sort and weigh them carefully.

- 185 "Blickling Hall, Library of Marquess of Lothian" = Blickling Hall (Q17535638). As the library seems to be a private collection, not an institution in and of itself, it should be moved down to the fonds level with designation "Library of Marquess of Lothian". The dépôt should be named "Blickling Hall".
- 186 "Bologna, Archivio capitolare" = General Archive of the Archdiocese of Bologna (Q81167740). Should be renamed "Archivio Generale Arcivescovile", as the Archivio capitolare is a fonds within this institution. Hence, fonds 186 should be renamed to "Archivio capitolare".
- 215 = Moravian Library (Q1957240) is now called "Moravská zemská knihovna" (Moravian State Library). Pinakes designation should be updated accordingly.
- 266: "UL" should be changed to "Cardiff University Archives" = Cardiff University Archives (Q81165434), as this is the holding institution (Source: [1]).
- 271: "BU" should be spelled out as "Biblioteca universitaria" = University Library of Catania (Q3639621).
- 328 and 376 seem to refer to the same institution.
- 338 = Dragomirna (Q289153) could be renamed to "Mănăstirea Dragomirna" or "muzeul mănăstirii Dragomirna".
- 560 = Holy Lavra of Saint Sabbas (Q1059946) is not located in Jerusalem but in Bethlehem (Q5776), so a new ville needs to be created.
- 585 = Kassel University Library (Q2496316). For "Univesitätsbibliothek" read "Universitätsbibliothek". The manuscript collection has its own item Q76633934.
