Updates[edit]

Hey Folks, could someone please update this brochure? A few things seem out of place (as it was created some 5 years ago): For example, the Open Refine link is outdated. It should be replaced with: https://wikidata.reconci.link/ -Mohammed Sadat (WMDE) (talk) 19:42, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Google Draw source file is available, so you can update it yourself and post an updated PDF here. Asaf Bartov (talk) 08:55, 25 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, you can not update it without violating your privacy (except with a lot of special precautions, using TOR and so on). Saying that a Google file is "available" is contrary to the whole idea of respect for other users. Why require others to violate their own privacy and provide themselves as raw material for GAFAM to sell to advertisers? After all, there's no point having UCOC if we're going to disrespect people be encouraging them to violate their own privacy. Please see https://switching.software rather than disrespect other Wikimedians. In particular, there are examples such as Cryptpad or Etherpad proposed at https://switching.software/replace/google-drive - install these on an independent server or use existing servers. @Sadads: You wrote we clearly label that the platform is run by google, but not everybody is aware of Google/Alphabet's privacy violations. The spirit of UCOC is to respect our users. I don't see how we cannot warn them if we're suggesting that they violate their own privacy. Please read w:Privacy concerns regarding Google and propose a more appropriate way of warning our users if you disagree ("inappropriate") with my proposed way of warning our users. I've NPOV'ed the warning to use the title of the Wikipedia entry. Boud (talk) 13:28, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
