Problematic imports[edit]

Hi, I come here after having stumbled by chance upon several problematic imports in relation to this WikiProject. In particular items which were created without regards to Wikidata's notability requirements and are 100% eligible to be deleted on the spot.

Let's take one example: Fountain (Q77819302).

  • The item does not contain any sitelink of any kind. The item is therefore not notable.
  • None of the statements make the item unique. Its name and descriptions don't allow to clearly identify the entity. That's because the entity is... just a fountain and not therefore notable.
  • The dataset from which the item was imported from (which in itself is also not notable enough to be Q76424180) is actually updated regularly and does not contain the actual item anymore.
  • So, this fountain does not exist anymore. This is to be expected as most "fountains" are temporary urban furniture moved around by the municipality according to the climate and the needs of citizens.
  • Nothing was done to prevent this or any effort to make a regular import. At the minimum, the date of import should have been stated with retrieved (P813) and a clear tag should have been used to be able to track down all the items imported at the same time. (I don't know any other way to find all of those easily.)
  • In conclusion, a vast majority of "fountains" don't have any notable feature of any kind.
  • Those imports should be immediately reverted.
  • Consider using OpenStreetMap for this kind of contributions, as they're indeed useful! just not on Wikidata.
