modelling sizes of sculptures with several, unordered parts[edit]

Hi @Juandev, @Spinster, @Oravrattas, I've been working on a bunch of Rückriem-Sculptures in public spaces recently (see User:Elya/Rückriem), which is far from complete, and I'm still quality checking and adding properties etc. One challenge I face is how to model the size of items that have different parts, but usually no given order in them. Sources usually give only the size of one of them, and says „2 parts, size each …“. We have these different cases:

  • Doppelstück (Q22257149) – 2 parts, different sizes, and I have a source with „1/2“ and „2/2“ – this might be the easies thing, if my modelling makes sense for you – using applies to part (P518) + part (Q15989253) +  series ordinal (P1545) However it's rare to find this detailed information
  • Q123239153 – 2 parts, sames sizes, sources usually say „n parts, size each“ – until now I added only one size and the qualifier applies to part (P518) + part (Q15989253), however some information is missing here, and a sculpture might consist of 8 similar parts …
  • Q123174878 – 3 parts, different sizes, sources give 3 sizes but in no particular order. I did not add sizes here because I'm stuck

In my understanding I cannot use series ordinal (P1545) if the source doesn't provide one. I also cannot estimate the overall sizes, if sources won't tell us. part (Q15989253) on the other hand seems very unspecific and a bit unsatisfying …

The parts are not individual enough to create sub-items, as I did with this exception Q1797729 – in this case the sub-parts are scattered over different locations in the city, but this is uniqe and quite easy.

Any idea how to deal with this? Do you have examples of other sculptures? Thanks for your advise …  Elya (talk) 16:59, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
