P527[edit]

What about has part(s) (P527)? That's the hyper-property of this tracklist (P658), as far as I can tell. However P658 looks like a partition, which should be used only when listing any and all tracks of a release; while P527 could be used even for a subset of them, e.g. if not all of them have an item (see also Wikidata_talk:WikiProject_Music#Songs). Correct? Federico Leva (BEIC) (talk) 18:27, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reverse?[edit]

What is the 'reverse' property, thus for specifying the album a song appears on? part of (P361) ? Michiel1972 (talk) 17:44, 1 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject Music has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead. I second this question. Runner1928 (talk) 20:15, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There are 2 other possibilities: part of the series (P179) and published in (P1433). --Infovarius (talk) 18:38, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

On qualifiers to this property[edit]

I have several questions and comments about potential qualifiers to this property. For reference, I have added some of them to Thriller (Q44320). WikiProject Music has more than 50 participants and couldn't be pinged. Please post on the WikiProject's talk page instead.

Hello Mahir256, I'm also thinking about a way to model informations related to the performance/recording of popular music. I started a discussion at WikiProject_Music. Beat Estermann suggested there [1] to create an own item for each recording and link this item via P658 to the release (album or single). What do you think about that approach? (I would centralize the discussion there).

As to performer (P175):

  • I would keep the information about the original performer on the song item. To see the song as independent from the performance would be suitable for works of classical or folk music without an original performer, but not really for works of popular music, where the original performer is often (always?) considered as an important constituent of the work (e.g. songs sung by Elvis are called "song by Elvis" even though he didn't write them).
  • As to cover versions: In my opinion there should be an own item for a cover version, linked to the original version via based on (P144) modified version of (P5059) (see Hurt (Q1142043) (Nine Inch Nails) and Hurt (Q51448159) (Johnny Cash) as an example). The cover version would be a derivative work (Q836950), not just a performance. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 11:56, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: I changed the property from based on (P144) to modified version of (P5059): I think this property expresses best that a cover version is not a completely new work (it has no own composer or lyricist) but also not a mere performance.. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 10:17, 24 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
