There is a definition problem here: Whether the item entails a device both for rain and sun or only for rain. In Danish one distinguish between parapyl and parasol and it seems that other language does that too, - except for English. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 23:01, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, homonymy (Q21701659)'s problem. And WP said: The word umbrella typically refers to a device used for protection from rain. The word parasol usually refers to an item designed to protect from the sun. May be split to parasol (Q1762975): umbrella used as protection from the sun and "umbrella - device used for protection from rain" --Fractaler (talk) 13:16, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I now see parasol (Q1762975) which is set to be a subclass of umbrella (Q41607). — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 16:33, 22 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Today I changed the descriptions referring to this item as only a protection from rain (or I removed those in languages that I don't dare to change). Most external links followed the English description. As I see it this one should represent any umbrella that protects from weather (sun, rain, snow, ...), parasol (Q1762975) any umbrella that protects from sun and umbrella (Q115380349) any umbrella that protects from rain. I left all labels alone and would leave it up to those speaking the languages to change them, if necessary. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 16:51, 23 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
