Switch name-surname

Hi! Thanks for your import of today from Righteous Among The Nations ID (P1979). I'd have just one request: I see that in some items, probably most of them (e.g. Yevgenia Zavalnaya (Q110007038), Stefania Żbik (Q110007067)), the labels have the order "Surname Name", but they should have the order "Name Surname". @Epìdosis I've made correction for vast majority (>99%) of items, but there are a few dozen, that is difficult to process automatically (such as Maria te Poel (Q110005119) or Vander Eecken Albertine (Q110005670) or Chi Fu Lin Taisia (Q109627869)). I guess such small amount of items can be corrected manually.
Besides, I have a problem of over-correcting hu-labels (see below) Ghuron (talk) 12:40, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Hungarian personal names

Hello Ghuron!

Hungarian personal names are in the Eastern names (see also: en:Personal_name#Eastern_name_order)

For example: Károly Dobos (Q106942351) Hungarian version: Dobos Károly.

  • surname: Dobos
  • forename: Károly.

Hungarian (eastern) name order: Dobos Károly.

English (French, German etc.: western) name order: Károly Dobos.

Hugo Suchomel

Hi. I'm working on item for Hugo Suchomel - Q42941667 to which you contributed statement for "member of political party"-Nazi Party. I have a 1947 Nuremberg Trials affidavit by Suchomel in which he denies party membership. I added his negative declaration as a quotation in your statement. Any thoughts on veracity of your statement or how to better present contrary information? Thanks.

Redshift problem

Hi,

There's a little bit more than 2,000 items with incorrect redshift value sourced with A redshift survey of nearby galaxy groups: the shape of the mass density profile (Q66470446). You saved some of them with a deprecated rank, but even there, I think it's incorrect for at least 2 reasons :
1- There's no 2,000 galaxies in this article,
2- They give a value (and not z). Probably that you have tried (and fail) to convert them.

As an example, I find nowhere this value in the source The catalogue of radial velocity standard stars for Gaia. I. Pre-launch release (Q56561456). I was importing this 2 years ago from simbad and they are constantly finding/fixing errors in their dataset. Right now it said z=0.000043, cz=12.94 with reference to Gaia Data Release 2. The catalogue of radial velocity standard stars (Q56603825)
I am working on the script that can continuously "synchronize" data between simbad and wikidata (instead of one time import), but it is challenging task Ghuron (talk) 04:06, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
Ok, I understand better the problem now. Thank you.
"cz" is the light speed times the redshift. So, probably that you have accidently imported "cz" instead of "z". As I can see, the speed is in km/s, so you can correct the invalid redshift values by dividing them by this divided by 1,000. But before doing so, I suggest to validate this idea with other members of the Astronomy/Physics projects.
Then, you have to understand why you imported bad sources for these values and replace the incorrect sources value by the good one. As an example, and you probably know this, The catalogue of radial velocity standard stars for Gaia. I. Pre-launch release (Q56561456) isn't Gaia Data Release 2. The catalogue of radial velocity standard stars (Q56603825).
So, as far as I can see, you can decide to correct theses faulty values or to suppress them to imported the good ones back. Simon Villeneuve (talk) 12:50, 30 January 2022 (UTC)

I am very grateful to the people behind SIMBAD, they do a tremendous job there and, of course, sometimes they make mistakes. I'm not sure why you decide that I'm trying to play victim blaming card, maybe because my English is far from perfect. For instance, I was told that "you have to" is practical equivalent of "you must", but I'm sure you're not going to use that kind of language with a volunteer colleague.

I eliminated most obvious errors, but there are more. E.g. most of the stars (within our galaxy or in nearby galaxies) should have pretty low z. NAME Galactic Center Lobe

I think NAME Galactic Center Lobe should be just Galactic Center Lobe. NAME seems to be an artifact from the SIMBAD database to designate that it's referring to a name, rather than a coordinate. Perhaps there are also more cases like this. Fuelbottle (talk) 13:49, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

I made those edits automatically, based on the naming of the ru-wiki articles and, of course, there are not dozens, but thousands and tens of thousands such edits. It is unrealistic to revert them manually (and it is better not to revert, but to replace them with Ukrainian ones). We need to pick up some reasonable criteria, but the problem is that among the 5 elements in which you reverted my edits (Q12122431, Q12128228, Q4455816, Q32361838, Q19902584) I don't see any common patterns... Re: IP Block exempt

Sorry to hear that something trapped you from editing here, but our policy said "only local exemptions should be requested here". Requesting gloabl IPBlock-exempt does not require you to edit a large number of project, only one is still considered a valid usage. Maybe you need to elaborate why you need to edit from an hosting VM (as proxy, it seems) on meta so that steward could have a clear understanding of your case. Stang★ 16:35, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

@Stang: Well, since we are talking here, I certainly can edit from my low-power chromebook here. The problem is that I want to debug my scripts somewhere and this VM is the only available windows machine, that has enough CPU/memory to do what I need. This is not proxy/vpn/etc. Please check my edit count, I'm using my own automation scripts extensively.

Good day, regarding YSES 1b (Q94498710), while SIMBAD does indicate that this may be a low-mass star based on an MNRAS publication, there are many publications that identify it as a giant exoplanet. AFAIK it cannot be both. So, why have you marked low-mass star as preferred? This tells readers it isn't an exoplanet. @Huntster I didn't see those publications and combination of mass (P2067)14±3 MJ and discovery method (P1046)direct imaging (Q15279026) with The Young Suns Exoplanet Survey: Detection of a wide-orbit planetary-mass companion to a solar-type Sco-Cen member (Q108907425) seems t logically fit into brown dwarf (Q101600) hypothesis (probably low-mass star (Q12795622) is a bit too extreme, I agree). @Gikü:, I was working on the items about people award received (P166)Righteous Among the Nations (Q112197). There is only one Constantin Simionescu in https://righteous.yadvashem.org/ and ro:Constantin Simionescu does mention that he has that award.
So obviously I've mixed two people, one of them is [1]. I am reverting my merge, could you please fix ro:Constantin Simionescu (remove mentions of Righteous Among the Nations (Q112197)? Ghuron (talk) 05:26, 11 October 2022 (UTC)

@Trilotat, NewAR does indeed apply to New Astronomy Reviews, and VA applies to the old title Vistas in Astronomy. Galaxy Morphological Type on Q1149364

Hello! I noticed the galaxy morphological type on this has the number 4 as one of its two values, which doesn't fit with the formatting constraint. I suspect the 4 corresponds to a Hubble Stage T value of 4, but I don't understand the reference well enough to be sure. @Niboe1 sorry for delay. It was imported from SIMBAD (see archive page), now SIMBAD states S_AB_a (with reference to Q68956787), you can verify it here
Feel free to update NGC 7065A (Q1149364). I'm trying to work on the more advanced simbad importer, once it will be ready, I'll update existing items Ghuron (talk) 12:37, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
Interestingly, SIMBAD only provides a part of the picture. In CDS, the morphological type is highly refined, yielding S_AB_a(rs)bc, i.e. "weakly-barred (more SA than SB, with ansae) with inner pseudoring and moderately loose spiral arms". I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue. The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.
