English descriptions for Latvian municipalities

The English description of 110 items listed here in the "Municipality" column would be "administrative division of Latvia", and most of these descriptions (if not all of them are missing). Adding it by hands would be couple of hours of my time. Could it be easily bot added? (I assume it costs much less time to the bot owner, otherwise it does not make sense). The request is straightforward and I do not see how it may need a community discussion. Thanks in advance.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:24, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

My bot can add articles if they are listed in the same category. Is this: w:Category:Municipalities_of_Latvia the correct Category? --Sk!d (talk) 10:42, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Yes, everything which is in this category (not in subcategories), ends with "municipality" and does not have an English description should have the description "administrative division of Latvia" added. Thanks in advance.--Ymblanter (talk) 10:49, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
✓ Done All Items on wikidata should no have the en-description. --Sk!d (talk) 11:36, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Great, thanks.--Ymblanter (talk) 11:42, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

Fix calling of Template:archive

Please improve calls of {{Archive}} template for pages in the Category:Archived requests for deletion. Need replace

{{archive}}, {{Archive}} or {{Archive||Archived requests for deletion}}

to

{{Archive|category=Archived requests for deletion}}

This should be fixed of incorrect calling of {{Archive}} on these pages. Thanks! --Kaganer (talk) 00:32, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

I don't really understand you. Documentation of the template does not reflect this and in edit view I just see a second parameter, where is the first one? Bináris (talk) 18:23, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

I think I understand the request. I'm not sure the parameters are entirely necessary because of the auto-categorization on {{Archive/en}}, but then again, I haven't checked the other languages. However, I've just updated my bot to use the category parameter instead.  Hazard-SJ  ✈  20:32, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
I seen existing calls as {{Archive||Archived requests for deletion}} (see example), but template did not know anything about these options. Once I added auto-categorization by default, these pages has been put to the root category. Then I - temporarily - added processing of the 2nd option to remove them from there. This no big deal; just help me cleanup it, and I'll remove this piece from the template. --Kaganer (talk) 20:37, 16 February 2013 (UTC)
{{Archive/en/doc}} are updated. See also old proposal on the Template talk:Archive. If exist a consensus about the "proper" bahavior of this template and organization of archival categories - I am ready to implement it. --Kaganer (talk) 20:48, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Running. Bináris (talk) 20:53, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

✓ Done, 108 pages were changed. (A bit slowly, in lack of a botflag.) I have found only the 3rd pattern. Bináris (talk) 21:59, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! --Kaganer (talk) 23:35, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Tool for adding properties

Hi, for adding a property to specific category members xx.wiki we should do it manually! is it possible to make a online tool (toolserver base or JS tool) or PC base tool like HUGEL which do this

  • ask
    • wiki's lang
    • category: item included in a category and items excluded category (to have better control on the list of items and exclude unnecessary items)
    • property id and it's input
    • UserName
    • UserPass (to edit by user's account if it will be JS tool it doesn't need :) )
  • add the property to items which are member of that category.

Now for adding a property to infobox members or category members we should edit items one by one! Reza1615 (talk) 08:42, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi, my bot does this already. See User talk:Legobot/properties.js. Legoktm (talk) 17:42, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks I made a JS interface for it's requests here. users can use it after importing in their Vector.js  :). Reza1615 (talk) 09:40, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Little Query for small wikis

As you know Big wikis' articles are imported and the small wikis' are remained. I wrote a query and share it here. The Query helps small wikis to have a list of articles (mostly don't have item in wikidata)for making their items.this query lists article which don't have interwiki to these 8 wikis Also it contains none-interwiki articles. You can use it with Toolserver account if you don't have, leave a message on my talk page.

SELECT DISTINCT page_title FROM page WHERE page_id NOT IN (SELECT DISTINCT page_id
                FROM langlinks LEFT JOIN page
                        ON page_id = ll_from
                WHERE (ll_lang = "en" or ll_lang = "fr" or ll_lang = "ja" or ll_lang = "it" or ll_lang = "de" or ll_lang = "es" or ll_lang = "ru" or ll_lang = "nl")
                        AND page_namespace = 0) and page_namespace = 0;

Reza1615 (talk) 08:25, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Maybe we should turn this into a database report? Legoktm (talk) 09:48, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
I'm agree But now the result is huge because none of small wikis didn't import their data we can make Database report after they imported and If we want to do this it is better to remove page_namespace = 0 or separate all namespaces to have categorized resultsReza1615 (talk) 10:08, 26 February 2013 (UTC)
Or we could just write more bots to try to solve the problem.  Hazard-SJ  ✈  03:33, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Add all people on wikipedia

This is a big one, but since it will eventually happen anyway... create a wikidata item for each person that has a wikipedia article, with "main type of item" as person, and regardless of language links. A bot can easily find them, Template:Persondata on en.wikipedia and Template:Personendaten on de.wikipedia. I would write it myself, but maybe someone has code and botflag already? --Magnus Manske (talk) 14:34, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

 Wait I think we should wait with this. The property thing is not fully developed there might be features which make this request obsolete. Also at some time all ids like VIAF etc. will be imported from wikipedia. A bot could do this task and add at the same time this property. --Sk!d (talk) 14:46, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
 Comment I do see the point, but it seems more likely to me that item creation and statement update will be independent, with the former probably calling the latter after creation. So a person item is created; does that check en.wikipedia for VIAF? de.wikipedia? fr.wikipedia? What about GND? What about the 4 million items (granted, only some of them about people) that already exits? More generally, what about statements for properties that do not exist at item creation? A bot needs to update them, taking existing statements into account to avoid duplicates. If a bot is written for that (and it has to be), there is little point duplicating that in an item creation bot as well. --Magnus Manske (talk) 14:55, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
I would rather do it step by step as features are ready. So right now we can do things like set "sex" to male/female, set birth place, etc. Once more features are available like VIAF, those should be added in. Legoktm (talk) 17:31, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
Currently my bot is creating items to all remaining sites from en-wp which have no item yet. I hope in the future my bot will be able to add/change/delete properties too. --Sk!d (talk) 17:52, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Films by year

Using the en Category:Films by year, many films could be found which would only need a Label of 19xx film. Should be easy to find the word for "film" in the other languages and they could be added as well. --Tbennert (talk) 00:22, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Import lunar craters eponyms

I think will be great to import eponyms from pages which use w:en:Template:Infobox Lunar crater as Property:P138. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 17:18, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Same for w:en:Template:Infobox feature on Mercury, w:en:Template:Infobox feature on Venus, w:en:Template:Infobox feature on Ganymede, w:en:Template:Infobox feature on Titan. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 03:27, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

Description same as Label

There are several instances where the Description is the same as the Label. For instance "19xx in Canadian Music" or "List of xx" or "Athletics at the Summer Olympics". If there were a way to pull a chunk of these and have a bot duplicate the Description in the Label field it could be done for several languages. Thanks --Tbennert (talk) 00:15, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

It would also need to make sure that the description starts with lower case e.g. "list of..." or "athletics at..." --130.88.99.229 11:39, 21 February 2013 (UTC)
I'm not sure if this is the intention of the description. In my understanding, the description should describe the item even better than the label does, but if the label is already self-descriptive I don't see the need for a description anyway. --Faux (talk) 18:02, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
I think Faux is correct the description is not needed if it is the same as the label. --Sk!d (talk) 23:20, 16 June 2013 (UTC)
