Motivation[edit]
I once added all the official German titles for every instance of Star Trek episode (Q61220733) using the property title (P1476). Someone then deleted those and told me to use name (P2561) instead. Which I did. But I still think, it should be called title. It is just not the actual/official/primary title. So how about having a separate property for localised titles? note that some works might multiple localised titles in the same language (example 6 & 7). --Shisma (talk) 09:36, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Weak support I agree that every localized version should have a new item, but on the other hand I'm rather pessimistic if people are going to create new items only to indicate the title in their language. Labels may be deceptive as there are cases where the film was not localized in the language and the Wikidata label holds the (transcribed) original title, sometimes because this is the lemma of the associated Wikipedia article. To have some examples for that: Vovka v tridevyatom tsarstve (Q4113875), Seryi Volk & Krasnaya Shapochka (Q3224104), Olsenbanden tar gull (Q1632925). - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 13:17, 25 June 2020 (UTC)

- Germartin1, Jura: well, so is native label (P1705), name in native language (P1559), male form of label (P3321), female form of label (P2521), official name (P1448), short name (P1813) and title (P1476). all these properties usually contain the same text as the items label or at least its aliases. But an items label doesn't allow you to specify where where or when a localized title was assigned, because there are no qualifiers for labels. additionally it is not possible to add a reference to an items label. Some works are also not commonly referred to by their localized title because it might be ambiguous, or badly translated: in these cases the items label should be the most common name or title of the work and not the localised title.--Shisma (talk) 16:47, 29 June 2020 (UTC)

- I think it's a valid approach. In one way or the other, there should be ways to add statements about information in label/description/alias to Wikidata. Just bear in mind that it needs to work for things like titles used in Quebec (always in French, contrary to France) or Latin America (or parts of it, compare with titles for Spain). Also, titles used in some countries/language versions might still be in English, but simplified for local consumption (see discussion).
