Motivation[edit]
Besides time and place historical events are an important aspect of the setting of a narrative work. With this property it should be possible to model the relationship between a work and historical events being part of the background of the plot of a narrative work. In my opinion this property would be especially useful for historical events, but I see no reason to exclude fictional events. Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 11:28, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Discussion[edit]
- Support --Shisma (talk) 14:13, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose. I'd use set in period (P2408). Thierry Caro (talk) 16:37, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- I always thought that set in period (P2408) would be restricted to time periods. But I see that events were mentioned in the property discussion as well (and there are no constraints at all). I can't think of any negative impact by using set in period (P2408) for events, so probably I will just go along with that. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 21:45, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per Thierry Caro. --Tinker Bell ★ ♥ 18:29, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- Comment Another duplicate of Wikidata:Property proposal/references and Wikidata:Property proposal/mentions named entity ? Jheald (talk) 17:48, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- It is a bit more specific, but it may be covered with set in period (P2408), as proposed by Thierry Caro. - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 21:45, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Comment has anyone checked whether the example values in the proposal are valid for set in period (P2408) ? An event is not a time period. - PKM (talk) 19:06, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose There is another property significant event (P793) that can be used with fiction works, tha has exactly that meaning. See, for example, the Wikidata page of The Nix (Q28859269) and others. --Tsaorin (talk) 20:53, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- significant event (P793) is meant as a property for events that are associated with the real-world-object, not as a property to enumerate events in a story (The use of significant event (P793) at The Nix (Q28859269) seems wrong to me). E.g. some books are lost and thus have significant event (P793) lost work (Q21752591) (see the examples and Property_talk:P793#How_do_we_use_this_property?). - Valentina.Anitnelav (talk) 21:45, 11 November 2019 (UTC)
- Yeah, significant event (P793) isn't for this. @Tsaorin: please delete it from 28859269. Maybe set in period (P2408), but a time period doesn't seem the same either. --- Jura 09:29, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- I see the prefered use for that property. I'll fix it. --Tsaorin (talk) 11:43, 12 November 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose and repurpose set in period (P2408) to allow for both events and historical periods Vojtěch Dostál (talk) 19:33, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
