Regex[edit]

Regex (the part before slash) is based on this query. --Edgars2007 (talk) 13:30, 26 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

www or global?[edit]

I'm slightly confused. This link asks you to log in, this link does not, at least not for me. Can someone explain? Is it useful to add www as formatter URL or even change into www? Lymantria (talk) 07:04, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Lymantria: changed. --Edgars2007 (talk) 08:29, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Articles or directory search results[edit]

My understanding was that this property was intended to link to articles at EB online, not to directory results or pointer pages. Was I mistaken? Or when/where did that decision change? --EncycloPetey (talk) 13:50, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@EncycloPetey: I'd like to know this as well. Personally I find the directory pages rather useless. Finnusertop (talk) 14:12, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed in cleaning creative works with author name string[edit]

Hi all! The following items

SELECT DISTINCT ?item ?itemLabel ?str
{
  ?item wdt:P31 wd:Q17537576 .
  ?item wdt:P2093 ?str .
  ?item wdt:P1417 ?brit .
  ?item wikibase:statements 3 .
  SERVICE wikibase:label { bd:serviceParam wikibase:language "[AUTO_LANGUAGE],en". }
}
ORDER BY ?str
Try it!

have been imported in 2017 with the following structure: instance of (P31)creative work (Q17537576) + author name string (P2093)string + Encyclopædia Britannica Online ID (P1417). Many of them are duplicates and they all need a more precise value of instance of (P31) (written work (Q47461344), literary work (Q7725634), painting (Q3305213), etc.) and also the substitution of author name string (P2093) with author (P50) or creator (P170) (nearly all the authors/creators surely exist). --Epìdosis 09:01, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

404 errors[edit]

In Property talk:P1417/404 error I've added a list of more than 6.700 identifiers for which a 404 error is returned. Horcrux (talk) 11:25, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I've set all such statements as deprecated (check [1] & seq.), added reason for deprecated rank (P2241)withdrawn identifier value (Q21441764) as qualifier for the identifiers that surely used to exist (checked using the Wayback Machine), and reason for deprecated rank (P2241)link rot (Q1193907) for the remaining ones. The QS batches are [2] and [3], respectively. --Horcrux (talk) 11:08, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

List of authors[edit]

Hi! @Horcrux: and I have been wondering on the best way to use author name string (P2093) as a qualifier for P1417 main statements when they are numerous authors, like here. On semantic ground, I am more keen to have one author per use of P2093, which would also hopefully makes it easier to disambiguate them (though I don't know of any comparable tool like Author Disambiguator that works for qualifiers). Horcrux is arguing for a more compact solution, with one use of P2093 and commas between authors to avoid having a long list that might be an hindrance for browsing the element. Any other point of view? --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 19:15, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In general I tend to prefer one P1417 for each name, on semantic ground as stated by Jahl; however, it is true that, when P1417 is not a main statement but a qualifier, the solution of one qualifier for each name as one drawback, i.e. making it impossible (at query level) to order the values; anyway, when P1417 are eventually converted into author (P50) the possibility of ordering the values is anyway lost, so I keep a small preference for the solution of one P1417 for each name. --Epìdosis 23:18, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok then, given no objection, I'll change the bot behavior. Thanks for having opened this thread. --Horcrux (talk) 10:55, 20 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
