formatter URL[edit]
@ArthurPSmith: Why did you employ the https://wikidata-externalid-url.toolforge.org/ for this property? The straightforward http://www.thepeerage.com/$1 seems to work. --99of9 (talk) 02:26, 16 August 2020 (UTC)
- @99of9: It must have been requested by somebody else, I assume because the Wikidata software doesn't correctly handle the '#' character in these ID's. ArthurPSmith (talk) 14:01, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- @ArthurPSmith: In what situations does the # mess up WD software? Was it failing to actually link the pages when http://www.thepeerage.com/$1 was the primary formatter? Do you know if there is a phabricator task? --99of9 (talk) 14:14, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
- @99of9: I believe it replaces the '#' and other special characters with HTML encoding, which doesn't work when you hit the server with such a URL. There are other characters for which people have to use the toolforge link similarly. There are a number of phab tasks relating to the formatter URL but I haven't particularly paid attention; it would be nice to get this fixed, but on the other hand there's probably some underlying reason for it that makes it tricky.
