Côte d'Ivoire?[edit]
Is it Ivory Coast or Côte d'Ivoire? Officially the country is called Côte d'Ivoire and that is the only name I ever hear. I understand it says to call the label in English, but even the British Government uses Côte d'Ivoire. What about Timor-Leste? Shouldn't it be East Timor then? - I say Côte d'Ivoire also, but I guess some use the English translation. Though the consensus was quite split, the title of the article on enwiki was moved recently; before that it was at the official name. I added the official as an alias. Osiris (talk) 13:04, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment. I guess as a database rather than a human-readable encyclopaedia, Wikidata should use official names rather than those which are known and/or accepted. I think that would also mean Timor-Leste and Myanmar (rather than Burma). JamesA (talk) 13:26, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
