Municipal merger

@Ideophagous: According to this news article, Oued Rommane was going to be abolished but not Ain Karma. Is this correct? If so, should ary:عين كرمة - واد الرمان and it:Ain Karma-Oued Rommane be moved to Ain Karma (Q2876335)? Essin (talk) 13:43, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Essin. Actually, it seems that Ain Karma and Oued Roumane were fused into one commune, as the Moroccan stats from 2014 use the name "Ain Karma-Oued Rommane". Thus both should remain as former communes, in addition to the new commune that represents the current subdivision, though I suppose someone simply converted the item for Oued Roumane into Ain Karma-Oued Rommane. See the statistics from 2014 here, which used the new subdivision. For comparison, here are the statistics from 2004. Ideophagous (talk) 14:14, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ideophagous: So when communes are merged in Morocco, the old communes are dissolved and a new one is created, rather than one of the old ones (possibly) being renamed and extended with the area of the other (dissolved) one or ones? I've seen both mechanisms in other countries but I don't know the Moroccan legal framework. Ain Dorbane (Q4697336) and Ain Johra (Q20395486) seem to be similar cases. Essin (talk) 14:23, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Essin I can't say that this is a general rule, though if Ain Karma town remained the center of both the old Ain Karma and the new Ain Karma Oued Rommane communes, then we could probably assume that it's the same one extended by absorbing the old Oued Rommane commune. It seems to me that the safest route is to keep both old communes as "Former communes of Morocco", and set a value for the end date property, and have separate items for the new communes. There's also the matter of the Moroccan geographic code (2015), which is an identifier that only applies to new communes (it's already been added to all regions and urban communes, and I'm in the process of cleaning up rural communes to add the codes to them as well). Perhaps @Mounir Neddi can shed more light on this. Ideophagous (talk) 18:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ideophagous @Essin
Hello
According to the latest Moroccan regional division in 2015, "Ain Karma-Oued Rommane" is a commune, and "Ain Karma" is the center of the commune. But statistically, the concerned authority (the High Commission for Planning) considers the commune an independent entity from the center, each of which has its own statistics. Then, an article can be created on each of them.
We find the same form with Ain Leuh commune and and its centre Ain Leuh centre. and Oued Ifrane commune and its centre Souk El Had....
Find here a screenshot of the communes map of the Meknes Province] from the official website of the High Commission for Planning.
Not forget that there are other entities in Morocco with this name outside the prefecture of Meknes, such as "Ain Karma" fraction in Louadaine commune, And some other villages like Ain Karma Moulay Yaakoub and Ain Karma Ras Oumlil and Ain Karma Taounat. @Mounir Neddi: Many thanks for the map link, I hadn't seen it before and it's very useful. Is there a similar map available for the census of 2004? The centre (Q23925390) Ain Karma was also listed in the 2004 census, so I think it should have an entirely separate WD item, regardless of whether the rural commune of Morocco (Q17318027) Ain Karma and Ain Karma-Oued Rommane will be in one item or two. @Essin @Ideophagous
Hello
We do not have a map for 2004, but there is a database on the official website of the High Commission for Planning. You can find examples in this image.
CR: Rural commune
AS: Urban center
Note: In 2015, these names were unified and became territorials communes Mounir Neddi (talk) 10:11, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
