User:Multichill/Visualize painter, painting, time and location
This page describes a way to visualize painter, painting, time and location to make it easier and more appealing to explore the data we have about painters and their paintings.
Data requirements[edit]
To be able to visualize things, certain data needs to be available. More and better data will increase the quality of the visualization.
Painter[edit]
For the painter (Q1028181) the following properties are relevant:
- date of birth (P569)
- place of birth (P19)
- educated at (P69)
- residence (P551)
- work period (start) (P2031)
- work period (end) (P2032)
- floruit (P1317)
- work location (P937) - Might be multiple entries qualified with start time (P580) and end time (P582)
- date of death (P570)
- place of death (P20)
- place of burial (P119)
Combined these properties give a good overview of the location over time.
Painting[edit]
For the painting (Q3305213) the following properties are relevant:
- inception (P571) - When was the painting created?
- location of creation (P1071) - Where was the painting created?
- location (P276)
- collection (P195)
- owned by (P127)
- significant event (P793) -
Visualization[edit]
The visualization should show a map and a time slider from around the date of birth of the painter until now. For the painter an icon should appear on date of birth (P569) at place of birth (P19). The icon should move around the map as time moves on based on available information and end on date of death (P570) at place of death (P20) and stay at place of burial (P119) for the rest of the time (probably with a cross icon).
Paintings should follow a similar approach. Each painting should appear on inception (P571) at location of creation (P1071) and should move around the map based on P276) (P276)) (and the qualifiers). For some significant event (P793) something could happen like showing some dollar signs when a painting gets sold.
Implementation[edit]
No implementation known at the moment. http://histropedia.com/ is probably the thing that comes closest to this right now. If you happen to be working at this, feel free to add a link here.
Scope[edit]
The scope is limited on purpose to make it feasible to actually build. Expanding scope is easier than later reducing the scope. The scope could be expanded to all work of art (Q838948) or instead of focusing on all paintings by one painter, focus on all paintings in one collection.
