Bleomycin[edit]

Hi, my apologies for continuing in English. My German is not so fluent. I had quick look at the point you brought up. It seems to me that the definition in the German Wikipedia is more precise than that in the English one. I also note that the Wikidata item linked to Bleomycin is biased towards that of a specific Bleomycin (A2) and not of the mixture described in the German Wikipedia. I have seen this regularly, and is likely caused by the fact that the English Wikipedia has a ChemBox template. This needs to be cleaned up. I suggest we create a new Wikidata item for the Bleomycin mixture and link the German and other Wikipedia pages for the mixture to that one. And correct the label of bleomycin (Q415571) to match the A2 form. I will check the CAS numbers related to the things in SciFinder tomorrow. Thank you for bringing this to my attention! --Egon Willighagen (talk) 22:07, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Your proposal seems to me to be straight forward. Please proceed - I hope we can curate items like this.--Mabschaaf (talk) 23:14, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, step 1: based on the German Wikipedia page for the group of compounds, there is this bleomycins (Q883844), and try this Scholia page. --Egon Willighagen (talk) 07:50, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Step 2: the drug, which is a mixture is now bleomycin (Q415571), and the A2 is now bleomycin A2 (Q26841044).
Step 3: identify all bleomycins, but the list on that German Wikipage does not capture stereochemistry for all, and ChEBI only has a small set, and two off that with no structure info. So, this one is going to take a lot longer. --Egon Willighagen (talk) 08:14, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well done. I just added the description in german to the items.--Mabschaaf (talk) 09:25, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'm now looking some of the bleomycins from that German table and using the CAS number to do some derecplication. Confirmed that bleomycin G (Q59580275) (new) does not have stereo in SciFinder and added it without it. --Egon Willighagen (talk) 13:36, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I think I got all of them, plz see [https://tools.wmflabs.org/scholia/chemical-class/Q883844 this Scholia page. The German Wikipage seems to have the wrong PubChem CID, though. It should be CID6852373, IMHO. I checked the stereochemistry of that one, and that matches the one in SciFinder. --Egon Willighagen (talk) 14:27, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thx. I corrected the CID at the German Wikipage.--Mabschaaf (talk) 14:33, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Taylor Swift - pop star and chemist! - temporary_batch_1546358226259[edit]

Is there anything that woman can't do? ;)

I think something might be off with your quickstatements batch, it cites a Taylor Swift track as a reference source for a ECHA InfoCard ID, hehe. Have a look at: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q27279935&diff=825031615&oldid=prev

Happy New Year! Moebeus (talk) 16:52, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Oh dear! Thanks for notifying me, that went really bad. Unfortunately, I do not know how to undo or repair these edits. I will ask User:MisterSynergy who helped me already a lot.--Mabschaaf (talk) 17:18, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like a very classical Excel mishap during data preparation (select a cell and "copy" it to a range of cells by dragging the value down; unfortunately, Excel increases non-numerical values such as Q-IDs as well). There are almost 1000 items affected; I’ll set up a batch to fix this later this evening, however my family is waiting for dinner which is more important right now… :-) —MisterSynergy (talk) 18:30, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Your guess hits the bulls eye ;-). Enjoy your dinner, thanks a lot for your help.--Mabschaaf (talk) 19:14, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The repair batch has just finished.
This is what many (fresh) QuickStatements users experience at some point. Let’s put it like that: it’s been only 1000 items, and it was rather easy to repair. We’ve seen much larger mishaps of the same type … Now back to work ;-) —MisterSynergy (talk) 19:50, 1 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Cannot share the CAS spreadsheet[edit]

Hi, I received your request, but unfortunately I am not allowed to share the spreadsheet. Many people have already requested a batch download of the data from the website, but CAS has not been ready for this just yet. It is expected they soon will, as it is just more efficient dan using the API for this. In this respect, I am just another user of their system and somewhat more privileged. --Egon Willighagen (talk) 17:09, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Egon Willighagen: I would just need the information which numbers are present in the database and which are not. So a spreadsheet with a single column would be sufficient - altough the names of the substances would be welcome as well. Maybe you can share this very basic information? The reason is that we want to link as much CAS numbers as possible in deWP to the Common Chemistry entries. But we really would like to avoid creating senseless links.--Mabschaaf (talk) 19:21, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I understand, but the data is not mine. What I am allowed is what I did for the English Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Chemistry/CAS_validation/CASCommons). Would that be of interest? --Egon Willighagen (talk) 06:05, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I created https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:Egon_Willighagen//CAS_validation/CASCommons --Egon Willighagen (talk) 09:50, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Are the 7013 CAS registry numbers mentioned there all items with a validated CAS number and a sitelink to dewiki? --Leyo 19:17, 20 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in the interview study with Wikidata editors[edit]

Dear Mabschaaf,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King’s College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research that develops a personalized recommendation system to suggest Wikidata items for the editors based on their interests and preferences. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I would love to talk with you to know about your current ways to choose the items you work on in Wikidata and understand the factors that might influence such a decision. Your cooperation will give us valuable insights into building a recommender system that can help improve your editing experience.

Participation is completely voluntary. You have the option to withdraw at any time. Your data will be processed under the terms of UK data protection law (including the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018). The information and data that you provide will remain confidential; it will only be stored on the password-protected computer of the researchers. We will use the results anonymized to provide insights into the practices of the editors in item selection processes for editing and publish the results of the study to a research venue. If you decide to take part, we will ask you to sign a consent form, and you will be given a copy of this consent form to keep.

If you’re interested in participating and have 15-20 minutes to chat (I promise to keep the time!), please either contact me at kholoudsaa@gmail.com or kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdmmFHaiB20nK14wrQJgfrA18PtmdagyeRib3xGtvzkdn3Lgw/viewform?usp=sf_link with your choice of the times that work for you.

I’ll follow up with you to figure out what method is the best way for us to connect.

Please contact me if you have any questions or require more information about this project.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment[edit]

Dear Mabscaaf,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits. Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards
