Disambiguation pages and family names[edit]

Please don't ever merge names and disambiguation pages. There are not ontologically the same and should be kept separated. Thank you. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 07:22, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Harmonia Amanda: And if a page is both as it usually is? --Sporti (talk) 07:46, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You read all the guidelines and rules and ask questions on the [Wikidata:WikiProject_Names]. It will take hours to repair your contributions right now. I can understand merging two items without thinking but when you saw that names and disambiguation pages were linked together using criterion used (P1013) and family name has to use a different item than disambiguation page (Q27924673) it should have been obvious there was a rule somewhere. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 07:50, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I removed that about 5 times. Sorry it didn't seem logical to me. --Sporti (talk) 07:54, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You did much more than 5 wrong merges, but I'll clean up, no worries. Still, don't do that again. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 07:57, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, you should not merge family names with generic names items (which are about the family name and the given name). In fact, you should never merge when you have the slightest doubt the items are not strictly identical. If you think it should be merged but you have a doubt, ask for the merge instead of merging yourself. Everyone will be thankful, because repairing wrong links after a wrong is pretty tiring. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 08:02, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Harmonia Amanda: OK, sorry. But why is wrong for example to link en:Berezovsky and sl:Berezovski? --Sporti (talk) 11:34, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You are right that en:Berezovsky and sl:Berezovski should be linked. It's actually en:Berezovsky and ru:Березовский that shouldn't have been, seeing that the Russian article talk also about toponyms. Many English articles are wrongly linked. The correct way would have been to move the English sitelink, which I just did, not to merge. I can understand most of what you did, but it wasn't clean. Sometimes you merged family names with disambiguation pages which were already linked to the correct family name (the two family names should have been correctly merged together). Sometimes you merged when the correct way would have been to move some of the sitelinks, etc.--Harmonia Amanda (talk) 13:02, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Harmonia Amanda:: Hi. So what is the best way to turn for example Q12788945 from Q4167410 to Q101352, is there s way to fix all the descriptions or will bots do it? --Sporti (talk) 14:13, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can change the P31, then delete all descriptions (using labelLister for example), then use autoEdit to add all the correct descriptions in one edit. No bot will help you but we have gadgets for that. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 14:36, 20 February 2017 (UTC) LabelLister and autoEdit are two gadgets you can activate in your Preferences. You can look at the history of Flisar (Q12788945) to see what I did. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 14:42, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Harmonia Amanda:: already using autoEdit, but it only adds descriptions to empty ones, doesn't change them. Tried LabelLister, but it only allows to edit languages one by one. --Sporti (talk) 15:04, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, you must use the "beta" version of LabelLister (the link is on the window) to edit all languages at once, and then use autoEdit. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 21:29, 20 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I did try that aswell, but you still have to click and delete all entered languages one by one, there is no delete all descriptions button, you can just save all at once. I see you used dataDrainer, but I guess there is a reason why it is not allowed for everyone. --Sporti (talk) 06:46, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Harmonia Amanda:: any objections to merging Q11903503 and Q4112943? --Sporti (talk) 12:00, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Musical instruments[edit]

Can you please revert (all?) your addings instance of (P31) musical instrument (Q34379)? Because classes of musical instruments (i.e. "piano", "violin" and others) are not instances of musical instruments (i.e. Tsar Bell (Q147875)). --Infovarius (talk) 17:02, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the reaction. If you have any questions about properties in future, you can ask me. --Infovarius (talk) 16:30, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bevor doing batch edits with PetScan, please read the documentation of the property. head of government (P6) should be used on items about cities or other governmental bodies and the values should be persons. Edits like this one are wrong. --Pasleim (talk) 08:49, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pasleim:: OK, so which property is for such cases? --Sporti (talk) 09:24, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You can either use head of government (P6) on the item about the city, e.g. Ljubljana (Q437)head of government (P6)Zoran Janković (Q220521) or you can create a new item "major or Ljubljana" and use it as a value of position held (P39). --Pasleim (talk) 00:01, 19 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Обьединить[edit]

Q1056691 и Q397141. Там антропонимы. А голландское, французское и галисийское Cesar, где геоназвания, я дал в отдельный элемент--Unikalinho (talk) 06:44, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Unikalinho:: I don't think you should merge Cesar and César. --Sporti (talk) 07:04, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But this is the same -- is the surname. We should merge the disambigs with surnames Cesar/César in the same element--Unikalinho (talk) 17:26, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If one letter is different, it is a different surname. Like Novakovič and Novaković or Béatrice and Beatrice are different. --Sporti (talk) 18:17, 5 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think that also this two pairs are the same -- of course, when it's about the name- or surname-disambigs. The different letters are no more than the special feature of the language-alphabet--Unikalinho (talk) 07:05, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Also don't mix disambiguations and names (see #Disambiguation pages and family names). --Sporti (talk) 10:17, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Es gibt einen Unterschied zwischen Name-Artikel und Namensdisambig-Artikel. Und was ist mit diesem? Hast du etwas dagegen?--Unikalinho (talk) 07:39, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sporti, I ask you as a sl-N speaker. Do you see any reason not to merge mountaineer (Q12798875) and mountaineer (Q9149093), based on the Wikipedia sitelinks? Thanks and regards, MisterSynergy (talk) 11:54, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@MisterSynergy:: in sl there is a distinction between mountain climber or alpinist (reffers to Q36908) and mountaineer (Q3505012). --Sporti (talk) 13:06, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Can we subclass those items somehow (mountaineer (Q12798875) and mountaineer (Q9149093), as well as mountaineering (Q36908) and recreational mountaineering (Q3505012)), or does this seem to be impossible? I don’t understand any of the sitelinks in recreational mountaineering (Q3505012), which does not even have useful labels (from my point of view). Regards, MisterSynergy (talk) 13:13, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@MisterSynergy::Added mountaineer (Q9149093) as subclass of mountaineer (Q12798875) and mountaineering (Q36908) as subclass of recreational mountaineering (Q3505012). Not sure of proper en name, but used recreational mountaineering for now.--Sporti (talk) 14:47, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Q234878 death revert...[edit]

Hi,

[1] was added through https://tools.wmflabs.org/pltools/recentdeaths/ .

If you revert my adding, please clean up the ruwiki page, or the info will resurface in the tool, and be added by someone else. Thanks. --Hsarrazin (talk) 12:37, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Hsarrazin:: I see, but it is hard to edit ru without knowing the language. --Sporti (talk) 13:25, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I can just tell, it will come back ^^ --Hsarrazin (talk) 13:39, 21 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Sporti,
could you have a look at Arnošt Brilej (Q12785133) and c:Creator:Arnošt Brilej to see which of the birth locations and death places might be correct or at least sourced? I haven't found any sources for them apart from CONOR which only says he died in "1953". Thanks in advance, --Marsupium (talk) 14:19, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Marsupium: Hi. I found this article about him [2], dates and locations here at Wikidata were correct. --Sporti (talk) 06:06, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! --Marsupium (talk) 08:12, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Slovenian VIAF additions[edit]

Hi. I have removed some of the Slovenian VIAF additions as they wer already in use by other WD items, eg. Cerknica (Q15860) for your addition to Municipality of Cerknica (Q13107298). VIAF authorities are unique so we need to determine one or the other.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:43, 20 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Preferred rank[edit]

Hey Sporti, please do not remove preferred rank claims from items, such as in this case and some others. Preferred rank is used for the most recent value, which is Slovenia in those cases. —MisterSynergy (talk) 09:44, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the wrong edit right now in the history of Daniel Goudineau (Q3014107). Your edit was perfectly correct, my hand ripped. you are not the one with the wrong modification on this article. I'm sorry. --Harmonia Amanda (talk) 11:44, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request[edit]

Hello.

Can you translate en:Template:AzerbaijanPresidents, en:List of heads of state of Azerbaijan, en:Template:Prime Ministers of Azerbaijan, en:Category:Prime ministers of Azerbaijan in Slovenian Wikipedia?

Yours sincerely, Sondrion (talk) 10:37, 22 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.
Can you create en:Category:Wars involving Azerbaijan in Slovenian Wikipedia, just like sl:Kategorija:Vojne Armenije? The military histories of Azerbaijan and Armenia are linked.

Slovenian names[edit]

Hello Sporti! I see that you have been adding a lot of Slovenian names, and seeing that you are Slovenian I hope they are correct?Because you seem to just be copying the already existing labels and pasting them in.Are you sure they are correct?Cheers Niko.georgiev (talk) 11:59, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Niko.georgiev:: Hi. Names are generally the same in all languages using Latin script (Q8229). --Sporti (talk) 12:47, 15 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Sporti: Thank you for the clarification! Niko.georgiev (talk) 06:16, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request translation Isabelle de Charriere[edit]

Hello Sporti, Could you write/translate the article of Isabelle de Charriere for the Slovenian Wikipedia? Or find someone else to do that? That would be appreciated.Boss-well63 (talk) 12:03, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've put it on the Requested articles list. --Sporti (talk) 12:11, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

"Nicotine Girls" in the label box[edit]

Please be careful, you added "Nicotine Girls" in the label box of Paul Czege.

Thanks for your contribution, but if it noteworthy, you should use Property (= Notable Work) = "Nicotine Girls".

Citizenship: SFRJ and Slovenian people[edit]

Hello, I have noticed that many, if not all data about slovenian people were edited from your account, where citizenship of SFRJ was added. I would like to know the reason why they were added, as they are not accurate or up to date. If reason for presenting people's past citizenship was the cause, adding separate statement listing "Former citizenship(s)" would be more appropriate.

This way wikipedia articles about Slovenian people show citizenships they don't have anymore. Also there is potential for ideological conflict, as not all people are proud to be part of former country and presenting they are still citizens of country that doesn't exist anymore can be seen as provoking.

Hi. Proud or not all citizenships of a person should be listed, to clarify the timeline you could use start time (P580) and end time (P582) like at Slavoj Žižek (Q184750). --Sporti (talk) 15:37, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sporti, can you please check Munca (Q31531141)? I did not get a mountain / place Munca, tried on http://www.geopedia.si/lite.jsp. I suspect that this is an OCR error and the nearby name Mlinca / Mlinzasattel (Mlinca (Q21866113)) is the relevant object (http://www.geopedia.si/lite.jsp#T105_F1173:8792_x423442_y149896_s15_b4). Reading 'li' for an 'u'. best --Herzi Pinki (talk) 11:20, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find Munca either, so it is possible it's misspelled Mlinca although height doesn't match. --Sporti (talk) 13:48, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Don't care too much for heights taken from Geonames. They are taken from some geoid model and differ sometimes many hundred meters from reality.
Is there a way to prove non-existence for geonames in Slovenia to get rid of this Munca (it is on the border so I try to find it in Austria, nope)? --Herzi Pinki (talk) 14:16, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Call for participation in a task-based online experiment[edit]

Dear Sporti,

I hope you are doing good,

I am Kholoud, a researcher at King's College London, and I work on a project as part of my PhD research, in which I have developed a personalised recommender system that suggests Wikidata items for the editors based on their past edits. I am collaborating on this project with Elena Simperl and Miaojing Shi.

I am inviting you to a task-based study that will ask you to provide your judgments about the relevance of the items suggested by our system based on your previous edits.

Participation is completely voluntary, and your cooperation will enable us to evaluate the accuracy of the recommender system in suggesting relevant items to you. We will analyse the results anonymised, and they will be published to a research venue.

The study will start in late January 2022 or early February 2022, and it should take no more than 30 minutes.

If you agree to participate in this study, please either contact me at kholoud.alghamdi@kcl.ac.uk or use this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSees9WzFXR0Vl3mHLkZCaByeFHRrBy51kBca53euq9nt3XWog/viewform?usp=sf_link

I will contact you with the link to start the study.

For more information about the study, please read this post: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/User:Kholoudsaa

In case you have further questions or require more information, don't hesitate to contact me through my mentioned email.

Thank you for considering taking part in this research.

Regards

Kholoudsaa (talk) 22:02, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sporti, I just came to your talk page because you were the last editor of Ana Cortés (Q108869021). I'm new to editing here in wikidata (you would normally find me in wikipedia), so maybe this question doesn't belong here, but anyways. I checked and the items Q108869021 and Q8198011 are duplicates, they both refer to the same person. After researching this person I was able to find that the item Q8198011 is correct, and the other one has the wrong birth date. I was about to merge them (or learn how to do it) and I realized that the "wrong" birth date entered actually came from the ULAN identifier and I'm certain that that birth date is wrong. So my questions are: is it correct to merge those items? what if the ULAN identifier suggests wrong data? will there be any confusion in the future? I use a bot generated list to translate biographies that are not in spanish already, and the item Q108869021 is listed there, but the truth is that this person already has a biography in many languages linked to the item Q8198011. Any help, ideas or suggestions on what to do will be highly appreciated. --Macacc (talk) 19:40, 1 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mistake reports CONOR.SI[edit]

Hi! I write you since I know you are the most active user in adding CONOR.SI ID (P1280) IDs to Wikidata, and I would like to thank you very much for this; I work on Italian persons, often managing authority records, and your work on Slovenian persons helps me a lot. I have the following question: in case of mistakes in CONOR.SI authority records (I have one case found today: https://plus.cobiss.net/cobiss/si/sl/conor/330592611 has a wrong date, since in fact all the works connected to it are by Gigi Riva (Q3764106)), do you have an effective way to report them? Thanks in advance from Pisa, --Epìdosis 17:11, 25 January 2024 (UTC) P.S. If you find mistakes in the authority records of OPAC SBN (= SBN author ID (P396)), you can report them directly to me and I have the possibility to edit them; feel free to write me![reply]

Hi, thanks, but unfortunately I don't have an effective way to report mistakes, the page doesn't have a report error button, only chat which I'm not sure it covers this. --Sporti (talk) 21:21, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Epìdosis: Also I see you imported https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/catalog/4268, any change you can update it or set it on autoscrape? --Sporti (talk) 16:45, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sporti: thanks anyway for your feedback; if you manage in the future to set up some effective mistake-reporting workflow with CONOR.SI, let me know. For https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/catalog/4268: it was scraped not through Mix'n'match interface, so I cannot set an autoscrape; but in February I can do a new scrape and update the catalogue, I add it to my to-do-list. --Epìdosis 17:21, 26 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Today I have updated https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/catalog/4268; for CONOR.SI ID (P1280), I have managed to contact them to report a mistake and they said that the email obdelava@nuk.uni-lj.si can be used for mistake reports of authority records. Epìdosis 13:50, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Epìdosis: Thanks. Any idea what's with Conor - it has autoscrape, but it says job is blocked https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/jobs/948? --Sporti (talk) 14:18, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was surely an autoscrape, started in January 2018; unfortunately autoscrapes often break after a few years, if the scraped website changes something in its architecture. Autoscrapes cannot be adjusted; it is anyway possible to upload a new catalog, either a static one (obtained through a scrape una tantum) or a new autoscraped one (for which you can ask Gerwoman, who uploaded the current catalog).
