- Motivation
As you can see, we already have ANN person, company, manga and anime properties here on Wikidata, but light novel's is still missing. Even though light novels have the same URL as manga at the Anime News Network site, they are a different thing (precisely novels, and not comics). As such, most of time (see above example) the same title can have both a light novel and manga link. Since on it.wiki we're getting IDs from Wikidata, we need this property for correct linking and categorization. Sakretsu (talk) 10:30, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Discussion
- Comment How does this differ from Anime News Network manga ID (P1984)? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:19, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Comment Manga are comics, while light novels are novels. As you can see at en:Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, there are cases where a light novel is adapted into a manga. If we fill P1984 with the manga ID, we can't get the light novel ID. On the contrary, if we fill P1984 with the light novel ID, we can't get the manga ID + our categorization would say that the article is reading a 'manga' ID on Wikidata while it is not true. Even though Anime News Network uses the same URL, comics and books should have different properties.--Sakretsu (talk) 16:20, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
- Hardly, see AGORHA person/institution ID (P2342) or HNI person/institution ID (P2476), or even properties like IMDb ID (P345), Rotten Tomatoes ID (P1258), and TV.com ID (P2638). These are all multi-purpose in this sense, so all we need to do is rename P1984 to extend its scope, and adjust constraints. Also, the two should not be on the same item anyway. The manga's ID belongs on the item about the manga specifically, the light novel's ID on the light novel's one. That way there is no clash. I Oppose a new property. – Máté (talk) 05:14, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
- Not done @Sakretsu: existing property seems to work for this. If necessary, you might want to improve its label/description.
