Wikidata:Property proposal/Lot nr.
lot number (alias = lot nr.)[edit]
Originally proposed at Wikidata:Property proposal/Creative work
Description | takes a number; used as a qualifier in combination with new property for "Wikidata:Property proposal/Auction sale"; Auction sales are a significant event for artworks, generally occurring as part of a larger sale of goods by an art auction house |
---|---|
Represents | lot number (Q28698186) of auction (Q177923) |
Data type | String |
Domain | artworks |
Allowed values | integer or string |
Allowed units | string |
Example | Moorish Ronda, Andalucia (Q27211804) -> 7 |
Planned use | adding to artworks that currently use significant event (P793) for this, with the caveat that a qualifier also be created for "Lot nr." |
- Motivation
Using significant event (P793) doesn't really cut it for artwork auction sales and we need some better way to include specific lot numbers instead of (mis)using the catalog code (P528) property for this, since not all auctions have catalogs. In this example case, an item should probably be created for the catalog so the catalog code can be used in the normal way. There are sometimes differences between a previously printed auction sales catalog and actual auction lot nrs. Sometimes items are added to or withdrawn from the auction at the last minute, but also sometimes there are just different numbers. - Support any reason to abbreviate "number" to "nr." here in the label? ArthurPSmith (talk) 20:09, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- not really except it does seem to be the most common convention in art history sources (but I also have seen "lot" "lot #" and "lot number". Jane023 (talk) 20:16, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
- Comment I'd like the label to be "lot number" with "lot nr." as an alias. Also, if we have lot number do we need a property for "sale number"? - PKM (talk) 21:38, 11 January 2018 (UTC)
- Hmm that would be an identifier used by the auction house. In any case a qualifier for Wikidata:Property proposal/Auction sale which I specified as a date type. Maybe that should be type item and the sale itself could have a property for sale number? It seems a lot of work to create sale items for each auction sale, but I guess most auctions selling important works sell more than one at the same sale. Jane023 (talk) 09:33, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Support I also prefer "lot number" as label.--Jklamo (talk) 18:22, 15 January 2018 (UTC)
