I have been contributing to Wikidata for some time, and would be willing to serve the project and its community additionally, as an administrator. My activities include:
- Over 30K Wikidata edits (26.4K in main space) by this account alone
- Occasional "Quick Statement" runs using my bot-approved account, User:Pigsonthewing-bot
- Wikimedian in Residence at the Royal Society of Chemistry, ORCID & elsewhere; always making a point of involving Wikidata in those roles
- Training Wikipedia editors to edit Wikidata
- Property creator duties (over 1,000 edits in Property: space)
- Regular contributions to project chat, policy discussions and other community forums
- Template editing (Template Editor status on en.Wikipedia)
- Administrator on Wikimedia UK and Outreach wikis
- Bureaucrat on OpenStreetMap wiki
- Regular contributor to Weekly Summary
- Started Wikidata section of Outreach's monthly GLAM newsletter
- Contacts in & collaborations with many national chapter and thematic groups around the world, and on non-English Wikipedias, through my GLAM outreach work
- Advocacy at external events, such as speaking about Wikidata at OpenStreetMap's "State of the Map US"
- Admin during Wikidata's early period (allowed to expire due to other priorities at that time) with unanimous support
While I would be wiling to assist in other admin duties, I envisage my primary use of the bit being in servicing routine deletion requests and clearing similar housekeeping backlogs. As a new editor I would make use of the admin noticeboard to seek guidance in any areas where I did not yet feel confident in my use of the tools. I would be open to recall following a community consensus on an appropriate noticeboard. I firmly believe that admins are editors with extra tools, not extra authority.

[edit]- Personally, Oppose. In the past there have been debates [1], discussions [2] and needless posts started by the user debating whether they're notable or not for Wikidata. This did include re-creating items despite notability deletions and so on. Recently there has been a bit of controversy around the user with active promotion of ORCID and with their residence status - it became a prevalent discussion point on the administrator noticeboard. This came up several times either from provoking or responding to provoking comments. [evidence, just glance through WD:AN]. So for me, I don't believe they need the administrator tools neither do I trust them to (whether impartially or just as a power play) utilise them for the advancements of the project. John F. - Support, I believe that what JFL brought up might be a bit of a concern, but I still strongly believe that Andy will be a net positive. --AmaryllisGardener talk 23:28, 29 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Strong oppose Nope, per JohnFLewis. Ill-tempered in my opinion (see also Wikidata:Administrators/Confirm 2013/4#Pigsonthewing - Rschen7754's oppose, and can he be trusted to remain active?). Often assumes bad faith on the part of admins he deals with whom he doesn't agree with (per the discussions I have seen). Roughly 1/3-1/2 of the listed "resumé" has nothing to do with Wikidata itself, and I'm extremely distasteful of his constant attempt to get an item on himself to the point that I have given up on trying to have it (rightly) removed. Absolutely cannot trust this user with adminship. --Jasper Deng (talk) 00:44, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Also distasteful of attempted canvassing.--Jasper Deng (talk) 15:31, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose Sysop on test.wikipedia but doesnt every help with sysop requests. Also was a sysop on outreach wiki. Only sysop actions on either wiki was to delete his own userpage. John Vandenberg (talk) 06:43, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose User's activity on Wikipedia promotes use of microformats that sometimes don't really apply to the type of data being represented. Wikidata should create or rely on data standards that actually apply to the type of data being stored. Jc3s5h (talk) 12:42, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose Technically proficient but lacks the ability to resolve disputes amicably. i.e. w:Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/Infoboxes, w:Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Pigsonthewing, w:Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Pigsonthewing 2... --Rschen7754 04:06, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Oh, and this recent gem as well --Rschen7754 04:18, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Support I believe he would dutifully and effectively carry out admin functions here on Wikidata. He has been involved in some drama on the English Wikipedia, true, but I don't think it will carry over. Circumstances are much different here it has seemed to me. - Oppose Not that I have anything against Mabbett in general, but he is not the type that would make an good administrator. He takes other opinions than his own way to seldom into account and has merly mediocre technical knowledge.--Snaevar (talk) 22:34, 31 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

- Oppose There are reasons he got a topic ban for infoboxes in enwiki. Looking at his record at enwiki and wikidata drama - no, no. --Atlasowa (talk) 18:33, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
