Gadgets in Wikidata

[edit]

There are many useful gadgets that can be enabled in the Preferences settings of your Wikidata account. Click on Preferences in the top right (close to the log in/log out button) of Wikidata and then go to the Gadget tab. There is a long list of gadgets. Tick the box(es) in front of the gadget(s) you want to enable and don't forget to save the changes.

We recommend to activate the following gadgets, there are many others you might want to explore:

  • currentDate: Automatically adds the date of today while using the property retrieved (P813).
  • DuplicateReferences: Adds a link to copy references and add them to other statements on the same item.
  • Merge: This script adds a tool for merging items. -- IMPORTANT: Only use the 'merge' function if you are really sure that the items you plan to merge are duplicates! Check identifiers, DOB/DOD and other statements to verify.
