Merging Q33456378 into Q43631

Hello, I do not understand why the merging process cannot be executed. Instead, the following message is displayed:

Not done In The Netherlands, a municipality (Leiden (Q43631) in this case) can contain more than 1 town (Leiden (Q33456378) in this case).

It's not 2 items about 1 town. Q33456378 is about the town. Q43631 is about the administrative entity the town is part of. Wikipedia often doesn't distinguish between the 2 things, but that doesn't make them the same thing. Request of improvement: merging qualified and not-qualified IDs

Hi all! When two items are merged, if item A has statement X with 1+ qualifier(s) and item B has statement X without qualifiers, the two statements are kept separate in the merged item; this is generally correct, but I would propose to introduce an exception (if possible), under the following circumstances:

statement X has datatype external-id
statement X without qualifiers has no references

In such cases, I think that statement X without qualifiers should just disappear in the merged item, being considered just a mere duplicate of statement X with 1+ qualifier(s). Here is an example: in this merge, NL CR AUT ID (P691) gets duplicated, with the ID appearing both without qualifiers and references and with 1 qualifier and 1 reference; I had to manually remove the occurrence without qualifiers and references (in the past, I handled manually some hundreds of similar cases, nearly all of them with P691). Anyway, if an ID appears in A with some enrichment and in B with no enrichment and no reference, I see no reason for keeping both the rich form and the basic form; this is just a duplication of data, which floods single-value constraint violations and gives more work to do to human users and bots. Yes, but those seem to be erroneously linked, eg de:Schuld (Ethik), it:Colpa (filosofia), sv:Skuld (etik). I removed them but this was undone, maybe because there is no item to attach them to as yet? There should be one item for Guilt (ethics) and one for Guilt (emotion). Now we have two for emotional guilt. Merges aren't transactional

Have a look at the history for Q119010015. Obviously some network issue happened, possibly congestion, which resulted in the merging process being aborted after cleaning and just before creating the redirect.

One way to try and remedy this would be to wait a little and try again, repeat 1-3 times. This won't fix merges that failed completely halfway through due to internet outage and similar, but making the gadget transactional could potentially mean a lot of work, and I'm not sure it will be worth it. The quick fix of simply waiting and retrying will probably catch 80-90% of these issues. Infrastruktur (talk) 14:07, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

But how can I find these props to remove the merging obstacles? I know that I can find them at web page anchors like Q866#P1889 or Q112247183#P127 but I don't feel like trying all these combinations.
