    de[edit]

All languages contains "describing" in label and/or description except de. Are you sure that you will not do wrong statements with that? Infovarius (talk) 16:47, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The taxon name Cactus ficus-indica was first published in 1753. 1768 it got the new taxon name Opuntia ficus-indica. The english description „publication date of the first scientific description“ is clearly misleading. --Succu (talk) 17:25, 1 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Date when taxon was discovered (de: veröffentlicht, isn't it?) isn't appropriate at all in these cases. Infovarius (talk) 18:09, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No. There could be a great gap between the discovery of a taxon and it's first (valid) published description. A new combination, a name at new rank, or replacement name for a taxon has its own publishing date and is not the first scientific description. --Succu (talk) 18:29, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So I'm confused about real meaning of this property. Can you put clear and equal meanings in de and en descriptions please? Infovarius (talk) 05:59, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And almost surely, it was first described well before 1753. It is all about the publication date. - Brya (talk) 10:57, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, see Hortus Cliffortianus. --Succu (talk) 11:28, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and that is only the first description by Linnaeus! He there refers to three earlier descriptions ... - Brya (talk) 16:20, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

    oneof-constraint[edit]

the oneof-constraint is for items, not for dates. i removed it. --Akkakk 18:53, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Publication date and date of publication[edit]

As there is P577 "date of publication" the name "publication date" is misleading. I changed to "date of taxon name publication" to match the other properties that have "data of ...". Andrea Shan (talk) 07:17, 5 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Taxon publication[edit]

Would it not be a good idea to have a property "taxon publication", which could link directly to the item for the article/publication describing a taxon? Publication date could be inferred through that relationship. --Azertus (talk) 23:19, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
