Usage[edit]

Monolingual or multilingual?[edit]

In English, Carl Linnaeus (Q1043) should have P835="Linnaeus", while in the Scandinavian languages, Carl Linnaeus (Q1043) should have P835="Linné". Just sayin'. - Soulkeeper (talk) 11:32, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Another possible case that comes to mind involves names that are originally in non-Latin scripts, where transcription criteria may differ from language to language and project to project.--Leptictidium (talk) 13:05, 24 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion to external-id[edit]

This seems ready for conversion to datatype external-id, for uniformity with botanist author abbreviation (P428). Objections? --Epìdosis 15:18, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • It was skipped on Wikidata:Identifier_migration/0 and the explanation given was "Does not seem to be a reference to a specific external database or authority.".
There are multiple people with the abbreviation "Zhang", "Smith" and "Miller". --- Jura 15:30, 17 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
