Owersicht or suppression refers tae hidin reveesions, uiser names in edit histories an logs, or portions o individual log entries. This access is available tae owersichters (those in the 'owersicht' or 'stewards' uiser groups). Owersichtit data can anly be viewed an restored bi owersichters.

Policy

The Owersicht featur is approved for uise in fower cases:

Stewards can perform local owersichtin in emergencies, durin crosswiki owersichting, or if thare are na local owersichters available.

Access

Requestin access

Access tae the Owersicht tuil is gained efter a successful request for permissions, whaur community evaluates an assess the candidate's suitability tae hauld, an uise, the tuil. Owersichters must be at least 18 years auld, o legal age in thair place o residence, an willin tae provide identification tae the Wikimedie Foondation. Thay must an aa be familiar wi the Wikimedie Foondation's privacy policy. When requestin access, candidates must advertise thair request tae the community bi postin a notice at the project chat, administrators' noticeboard, watchlist, mailin leet, etc.

The request must remain open for at least twa weeks. Efter gainin consensus, an wi at least 25 support votes an 80% o votes in favour, a bureaucrat will close the discussion an request access on meta:Permissions wi an airtin tae the discussion. On Wikidata, anly uisers hauldin the admeenistrator permission are eligible tae request Owersicht access. It is heichly recommendit tae be identified tae the Wikimedie Foondation afore applyin for access, altho this can be done efter the request is closed as successful.

IRC channel

Thare is a private IRC channel (#wikimedia-privacy) tae which aw stewards an owersichters who uise IRC should hae access. Contact ony channel member tae gain access; a channel manager will grant permanent access. Ask a steward if ye need help gainin access.

Mailing list

There is a private mailing list (mail:wikidata-oversight) for case discussion and announcements. Only Wikidata oversighters are eligible to subscribe. At the request of the WMF, the emails are not publicly or privately archived on the servers.

Removal o access

Removal o owersicht access can happen in ony o the follaein circumstances:

1. Bi resignation;

2. Efter a successful request for removal o access. These requests are considered successful if at least ane third o the voters are in support o removal;
3. If admeenistrator access is revoked.

In case o abusive uise o the tuil, the editor wi the owersichter privilege will immediately hae thair access removed bi a steward. This will in particular happen if actions are done routinely wioot a serious motive tae do so (airtins an proofs o bad behavior should be provided). Suspicion o abuse o owersichter access should be discussed, an stewards mey nae decide tae remove access on thair ain; altho, thay can help provide information necessary tae prove the abuse (such as logs). If necessary, an in particular in case of lack o respect taewards the privacy policy, the Board o Wikimedie Foondation can be asked tae declare removal o access as well.
