Reports of possible problems in entries[edit]

This section is designed for the reports of possibly incorrect entries present in the catalog. Add reports as new points of the list (the line should start with *); comment entries using indentation (the line should start with *:), increase the indentation in order to continue the thread (so *::, then *:::, then *:::: etc.). The libraries will probably answer reports in a few days. --Epìdosis 11:12, 7 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Massive creation of new VIAF clusters with BAV[edit]

Notified participants of WikiProject Italy and @Bargioni:),

Since the the 5th of March there was a massive import of BAV IDs in VIAF, resulting in various duplicates. Seemingly there is a "main" ID with a label and aliases, and another ID for each aliase, which can quickly scale the number of IDs. Does someone has a contact with the BAV to check if they plan to do something about it? --Jahl de Vautban (talk) 16:53, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be a very relevant problem; it seems analogue to the problem seen a few years ago with Vatican Library ID (former scheme) (P1017), which was present in VIAF with many IDs too (one ID for each form of the name). This surely needs to be solved. @Bargioni: could you try, maybe? You probably have the best probabilities of success. --Epìdosis 17:06, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The problem seems to lie in a change VIAF has made in its processing of BAV data. BAV has reported the problem to VIAF two months ago and is waiting for its solution by VIAF. --Epìdosis 12:58, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
