urban area (Q702492)/urban area in Nordic countries (Q6566301)[edit]

Items involved: Q702492Talk, Q6566301Talk Status:    not resolved

Urban area = sv: Tätort = no: Tettsted This is a conflict, the swedish word coult not be saved because there is a page called "Urban areas in Sweden" that corspond to the swedish word. A good solution is to merge the latest mentioned page in the page "Urban area". Krg (talk) 23:09, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Lavallen: Thoughts? --Izno (talk) 13:30, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The English article "Urban area" "Q702492" is "International". There is also a "Nordic" standard (Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark) from 1960 who have another formal standard. (The difference is maybe that a Nordic urban area often is smaller and maybe have larger distances between the houses, compared with an international.) But that standard also allow some local differences between the nations. (In Sweden we are counting the summer and holiday homes separatly, and do not allow to many of them, why a Norwegian urban area does not always fit into the Swedish standard.) SO, I guess we need separate items for "International", "Nordic", "Swedish" and "Norwegian" urban areas. I know that also the Norwegian definition is a little separate from the "Nordic standard" from 1960, so I guess that also need an Item of it own. I do not know if we have any items about Finnish or Danish urban areas and if they have any differences from the Nordic standard. So, I guess we can rename Q6566301 to "Urban area in the Nordic nations" or something like that. Some of the sitelinks maybe have to be moved to "Q12813115". The Danish (a redirect) and the Italian looks like they definitly have to be moved to that item. In Sweden we also have some other definitions named "Fritidshusområde", "Småort" and "Arbetsplatsområde" who are related to Tätort, but they not the same thing. -- Lavallen (talk) 15:15, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I haven't yet got a reply so I write here, even though I don't think this is right place. Shouldn't "Urban areas of Sweden" be changed to "Urban areas in Sweden" as the Wikipedia article is called? --IRISZOOM (talk) 01:55, 23 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Cantonese (Q9186)/Yue Chinese (Q7033959)[edit]

"Yue" is used by Mandarin speaking people and ISO only, Cantonese and Westerners call this language Cantonese. Of course "Cantonese" is more useful for the English users. (And, Cantonese may also referred to the ethnic group speaks Cantonese.) --Fongyun (talk) 04:03, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If we go by the linguistic definition, Yue Chinese is the name for the branch of languages and includes Cantonese, which is treated as the prestige dialect of the group. So Cantonese would be a subcategory of Yue Chinese. - M0rphzone (talk) 19:45, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Tatler (Q1613096)/Tatler (Q15078212)[edit]

The German wikipedia article under Q1613096 refers to both entities. --GVogeler (talk) 07:45, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to improve it and collect the items with a focus on the 1709 magazine in The Tatler (Q1613096). The English article en:Tatler speaks only about the new magazine (from 1901). The Spanish Wikpedia seems to treat both in equal parts. Can someone check the Russian Wikipedia? Should it better be seperated because there is also a Russian version of the magazine? --Zuphilip (talk) 12:05, 6 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
ru-wiki article is only about new one (after 1901). -- Vlsergey (talk) 03:42, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's fixed now. The Tatler (Q1613096) has a bunch of articles, each of which discuss various magazines named the Tatler which have appeared at various times since 1709. These should really each get their own items so each can have their own start date and end date.
I moved finnish and russian sitelinks to Tatler (Q15078212) as Google translate says they only discuss the current version of the magazine published by Conde Nast. Filceolaire (talk) 18:26, 19 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I assume this is not an interwiki conflict but Ididn't find an appropiate task force to signalize the problem. The articles from East Asian Yogācāra (Q349849) should be separated in two wikidata items: one should contain the articles about the general notion (en:East Asian Yogācāra, it:Buddhismo Fǎxiāng, no:Faxiang zong) and the other one the Japonese version of it (de:Hossō-shū, fr:Hossō-shū, hu:Hosszó and probably the ru and uk articles as well). I have no idea about the remaining three (ja, ko and zhwiki); and no experience with splitting wikidata items. --Hkoala (talk) 16:48, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia articles this interwiki data item links to seem to describe similar but not really identical concepts.

There is probably more

I'm no architect or art historian and don't speak enough of most of the involved languages to really sort this out, so would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks, --S.K. (talk) 23:10, 8 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I moved es and ca-wiki link to intercolumniation (Q1364172). - In the talk page of enwiki also fr:Baie (architecture) was mentioned which is now bay (Q2879412). - I guess that cs:Klenební pole is a subclass of Q189771, because there is already a cswiki attached to it. This might be helpful for German: http://www.duden.de/rechtschreibung/Joch --Zuphilip (talk) 11:52, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
German has two concepts of measurements: Joch means the distance beween the axes of two columns, Interkolumnium means the distance between two columns measured on the surface. Columns with the same joch can have different interklumnium, depending on the diameter of the column. Joch = Intercolumnium + diameter / Joch - diameter = Intercolumnium.--Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 15:33, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

cannibalization (Q1154300)/Cannibal (Q59857)[edit]

Items involved: Q1154300Talk, Q59857Talk Status:    not resolved

There are three articles about Cannibalization in English. One is about C in marketing, the next is about C in fiction and the last one about C of machine parts. There also is a disambiguation page, which (unfortunately) is also disambiguating man-eating cannibals etc.

The articles in all the other languages linked at Q1154300 are either about marketing (:ar and :ko), about machine parts (:pl) or both (:nl, :it, :de). None (except the English one) is about fiction.

Therefore I would like to change Q1154300 to link to en:Cannibalization (with or without an additional #Cannibalization), and rename it afterwards, but wikidata will not let me, as the disambiguation seems to be occupied by Cannibal (Q59857).

In my opinion, having this bunch of articles in English is correct, as most articles are quite detailed. Also, not having a bunch of articles in the other languages seems right, as right now, they are not so detailed (also, I guess not all usages of Cannibalization are valid in all of the other languages, eg in German you would rather say "Plagiarism" than "Cannibalization of fiction"). So I give up. --Vwm (talk) 18:13, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Prirazlomnaya (Q14936000)/Prirazlomnoye field (Q59557)[edit]

Items involved: Q14936000Talk, Q59557Talk Status:    not resolved

Hallo dear problemsolvers! maybe the two items could simply be merged, but exactly there is the oil- and gasfield en:Prirazlomnoye field and the building de:Priraslomnaja-platform. Two different details in our natural and man-made environment. So both items should be described a little bit better, links between both items maybe better than a merge, wrong sorted articles should be moved to Priraslomnaja Q14936000 (to move the platform for recycling or for usage in greenpeace-gazprom-whalewatching to reach a longterm economical and ecological bonus is here not possible, unfortunately, global thinking may find real renewable solutions). Is it possible to connect articles by REDIRECTS in Wikidata, so in en-WP the existing REDIRECT en:Prirazlomnaya platform to en:Prirazlomnoye field#Development should be used; and vice versa the (not written) REDIRECT de:Priraslomnoje oilfield (to de:Priraslomnaja platform and similar articles in the other WP-projects. If direct Wikidata-REDIRECTS are not possible, are old interwikilinks to Redirects a possible solution to link articles? --LudwigSebastianMicheler (talk) 23:25, 25 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This item should only be connected to the concept of backlight itself. Q12810597 and Q1797988 should be merged to form one item to articles about LED-TV's and another item should be created to connect to "Backlit LED-TV's". Items involved: Q173350Talk, Q3375299Talk Status:    not resolved

(Sorry - I'm new in the interwiki subject :) Problem:
In enwiki 'PCB' and 'Perfboard' are separate subjects. (The same sems to be valid for French.)
In dewiki there is only 1 subject covering both:
"Leiterplatte" equals "PCB",
"Leiterplatte#Experimentierplatinen" includes the perfect equivalent of Perfboard: "Lochrasterplatine" (which currently seems not to allow for a direct reference).
As it is, it would be helpful to have "Perfboard" linked to "Leiterplatte#Experimentierplatinen" - which is currently not possible.

web marketing (Q3008173)/digital marketing (Q1323528)[edit]

Items involved: Q3008173Talk, Q1323528Talk Status:    not resolved

The italian pege about it:Web marketing looks more like a specific case of en:Digital marketing, whilst fr:Cybermarketing seems more a specific aspect of en:Web traffic, which in French doesn't exist. Please notice that Web marketing on en.wiki is a redirect to en:Online advertising since 2007, but IMHO marketing is a wider concept than advertisiment.

All the articles show very poor references, so it is quite difficult to have an idea. Even if there are subtle differences, I think in some languages a rearrangement of some concepts in different (maybe new) articles will help in sorting them out in a much clearer way.

I think both are not the same thing, then should not be merged. Also, for example, čeština have two articles: cs:Internace (Internment) and cs:Koncentrační tábor (Concentration camp). I think that https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Софизм should be linked not to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophism but to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy . https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Софизм talks about logical fallacies while https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sophism is about Sophism as a method of teaching. I suggest that https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Софизм should be linked to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy, and possibly be merged with https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Логичиская_уловка. power (Q25107)/political power (Q2101636)[edit]

Items involved: Q25107Talk, Q2101636Talk Status:    not resolved

It seems that some wiki distinguish Power (political science) from Power (sociology). As a sociologist, I find this a rather unnecessary division, but for us it means that some interwikis are messed up. On en wiki, there's an article about w:Power (social and political). We need to consider whether we want to have three articles (Power (political science), Power (sociology) and Power (political science and sociology) or just one and clean up the interwikis. I think that power (Q25107) should be the main one, and it should be linked to en w:Power (social and political) which is currently incorrectly linked to more limited political power at Q2101636. While my preferred solution would be to merge all articles on power (s) and power (p), I think we need to 1) retitle power (politics) to Power (political science), 2) create a new entry for power (sociolology) and move the articles between those three families. Most latin ones can be guessed at where they should be (defaulting to Q25107). For non-latin ones... google translate? --Piotrus (talk) 08:40, 31 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Both pages seem to list Category pages relating to Project Bots, but I'm not quite sure what the difference between them is meant to be. It Is Me Here t / c 12:21, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@It Is Me Here: On en.Wikipedia the difference seems clear. All bots is all bots and appears to be non-diffusing (because it is defined as all of them); bots is diffusing. mindfulness (Q15009109)/mindfulness (Q341045)[edit]

Items involved: Q15009109Talk, Q341045Talk Status:    not resolved

This began when I removed the interwiki links from the Wikipedia article w:Mindfulness (psychology), which here at Wikidata is mindfulness (Q15009109). I came here to ensure the database for that article would include the links I removed. Right away, I ran into conflicts with mindfulness (Q341045), which holds the links for w:Mindfulness, an article without the "(psychology)" disambiguator. It appears that some of the links at mindfulness (Q341045) have the disambiguator, and perhaps those should go at mindfulness (Q15009109)? Others without qualifiers may need help from those who know the language and can add qualifiers for mindfulness (Q15009109)? I don't know; this is the first time I've ran into conflicts, so I'm not quite sure how to proceed. Thank you for any help you can give! – Paine Ellsworth WD:CLIMAX! 16:42, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

All the links to Hesperus and Phosphorus (morning star) were mixed up. I canceled many but not all wrong links but I don't succeed to reintroduce the correct links to the proper page. Pinea (talk) 21:43, 9 May 2014 (UTC) --Pinea (talk) 22:13, 9 May 2014 (UTC) Let me explain further: A lot of pages related to Hesperus were linked to Phosphorus and viceversa. So the problem was that I had to exchange links and I was not allowed by the system. I had to destroy half of the links before modifying the other half. After several attempts I succeded to fix most of them but not all. For instance I don't know how to handle the eswiki Hespero, still connected to Phosphoros. Moreover I destroyed the links of dewiki hesperos, fiwiki hesperos, eowiki hesperos and nowiki fosforos, and I am not able to link them to the correct page anymore(I really tried only for dewiki). I also don't read chinese, japanese, hindi, persian or arabic titles so I don't have the slightest idea whether they are connected to the proper pages. There are several questions. First why some wiki behave differently than others. Even in wikidata table some links were initially impossible to remove (an error flag was popping out), Gd only knows why. Second the difficulties probably were due to the fact that the software cannot handle easily the replacement of a wrong link with another one. Rather than simply telling that I cannot make the link because another page from the same wiki is already linked, it should suggest me what to do, for instance could allow the replacement provided I also suggest a new link for the other page previously linked there.Pinea (talk) 20:49, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

They are not the same. The Japanese page does not mention the given name specifically, as opposed to the Western language pages which are structured around it. Three way conflict; There are three different things, but different languages decided to merge (different) two or all three into one wikipedia article.

I created Q17315534. This should deal with the product of OKBM, as there are wikipedia articles dedicated to it. The russian brandname for this however simply is the generic term "Reactor for fast Neutrons". The russian wikipedia has only one article for both topics. The latter two should however not be confused because there are other manufatures for "Reactor for fast Neutrons".

DE Pflaume/Untergattung der Genus Pflaume

Problem in NL: in the Dutch of Belgium (Flemish), I believe “kwets” is an appropriate label, but “pruim” would also be right. In the Dutch of the Netherlands, the word “kwets” refers specifically to Prunus domestica subsp. domestica, so I believe “pruim” would be a more appropriate label for Q6401215 in Dutch.

Pages linked to Q6401215:

If this item includes all species in the subgenus Prunus of the genus Prunus, then EN Plum and FR Prune appear to be correctly linked to Q6401215.

AF Pruim appears (my understanding of Afrikaans is limited) to refer to Prunus domestica only and to distinguish Prunus armeniaca, so perhaps it should be linked to Q44120 instead.

I cannot comment on the other pages linked to Q6401215.

Problem in NL: in the Dutch of Belgium (Flemish), I believe “kwets” is an appropriate label, but “pruim” would also be right. In the Dutch of the Netherlands, the word “kwets” refers specifically to Prunus domestica subsp. domestica, so I believe “pruim” would be a more appropriate label for Q44120 in Dutch.

Pages linked to Q44120:

DE Pflaume, EN Prunus domestica, FR Prunier, and LB Promm appear to be correctly linked to Q44120.

NL Pruim purports to refer to Prunus domestica but also includes substantial discussion and photos of Japanese plums that are not Prunus domestica, so I believe it should be linked to Q6401215 instead (and the taxonomy box amended accordingly).

I cannot comment on the other pages linked to Q44120.

plum (Q13223298)

Labels/descriptions

EN plum/subspecies of plum (Prunus domestica subsp. domestica)

NL Kwets/ --

DE Zwetschge/Unterart der Art Pflaume (Prunus domestica)

These are all appropriate.

Pages linked to Q13223298:

BAR Zwetschgn; DE Zwetschge, EN Zwetschge, and NL Kwets appear to be correctly linked to Q13223298.

FR Prunier de Damas refers principally to Prunus domestica var. insititia (or Prunus insititia) and also lists, e.g., Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca as a variety of Prunier de Damas, so linking FR Prunier de Damas to Q13223298 appears not to be appropriate. I suggest it might be linked to Q149195 instead. However, the French language apparently treats “quetsche” (which is a close cognate of zwetschge, Prunus domestica subsp. domestica, originating from the parts of France that once spoke German) and “prunier de Damas” (damson) as synonymous, so advice from someone with a sound grasp of French and Prunus taxonomy is needed.

I cannot comment on the other pages linked to Q13223298.

Prunus domestica subsp. insititia (Q149195)

Labels/descriptions

EN Prunus domestica subsp. insititia/subspecies of plants, Damson

DE Kriechen-Pflaume/Unterart der Art Pflaume (Prunus domestica)

These are both appropriate.

Pages linked to Q149195:

DE Kriechen-Pflaume, EN Damson, and ES Prunus domestica subsp. insititia appear to be correctly linked to Q149195.

FR Quetsche purports to refer to a variety of Prunus domestica subsp. insititia, but I believe the entire text (except the gallery) may be good as a discussion of Prunus domestica subsp. domestica, so linking FR Quetsche to Q149195 may not be appropriate. I suggest it might be linked to Q13223298 instead.

As far as I can tell (as a hobby planter also) there is a need to stick to the latin names to keep seperate the different concepts as there lures also Prunus (Q190545) as well. So i think one of the three items Prunus subg. Prunus (Q6401215)/Prunus domestica (Q44120)/Prunus (Q190545) is redundant. So lets explain plums and the relatives: 1. Prunus genus: very broad concept of different plants like cherries, apricots, almonds and plums 2. prunus subgenus prunus: Includes plums and prunus spinosa 3. Prunus domestica (plums), most of the different fruits belong to this species. However although some of the fruits look very similar in fact they are not the same, but they all belong to this group 4. prunus domestica subsp. domestica. Zwetschge is a very special subspecies of plum. You can store it for some weeks, you can dry it very well, flesh adheres not to the stone, it is also used for destilling Schnaps. Other plums are watery and will be gone within a few days. Q13223298 seems approprate, however dawiki Blomme (frugt) and stqwiki Oachteboom seek to describe the broader concept of plums. The frenchPrunier de Damas has no taxon, but lists the different forms of subspecies so this belongs to the broader concept of Plums. There seem to be several redundancies in the french wiki and also different names for ther same thing. 5. Prunus domestica subsp. insititia is also a very special subspecies however the names are many and sometimes the same name is used for different plants or fruits. The greek Δαμασκηνιά however seems to describe prunus domestica. French frwiki Quetsche seems to describe prunus domestika subsp. domestica but gives it another taxon. gawiki Daimsín: don´t know, is a substub. iowiki Quecho seems me to be prunus domestica subsp. domestica. --Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 13:33, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

contralto (Q37137)/alto (Q6983813)[edit]

Items involved: Q37137Talk, Q6983813Talk Status:    not resolved

This two items are about deep womans voices so it seems to be possible to merge the two items. However the term kontraalto(contralto) and alto describe different concepts in some langunages, in some it is the same. In some languages the contralto means a very low womans voice like Zarah Leander, similar to tenor. In other langugaes as italian contralto and alto is the same but only contralto is used. So it is necessary to use one item for the general concept of deep womans voices and one only for the concept of womans voices in tenor range. I find no way to tell which link in which item describes the general and which one the "deeper" concept. --Giftzwerg 88 (talk) 11:45, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

psychoactive drug (Q3706669)/recreational drug use (Q7708739)[edit]

Items involved: Q3706669Talk, Q7708739Talk Status:    not resolved

The fi:wikipedia article Q3706669/Päihde deals with intoxicating substances used for recreational purposes but the links to other languages redirect to articles dealing with psychoactive drugs used for variety of purposes. Correct english link would be to article Recreational drug use. In the en:wikipedia article Psychoactive drugs there is a link to fi:wikipedia article Psykoaktiivinen aine and that is correct. When I try to change the english link in Q3706669 to Recreational drug use, an error message pops up saying that it cannot be done because Recreational drug use is already in Q7708739 but when I go there, there is is no fi:wikipedia relations and when I try to add the fi:wikipedia article Päihde an error message comes up saying Päihde is already used in Q3706669.--Custoo (talk) 18:57, 25 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So, could the solution be to delete item Q3706669 and then add Päihde as the Finnish counterpart to item Q7708739? --Custoo (talk) 20:48, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

God (Q190)/deity (Q178885)[edit]

Items involved: Q190Talk, Q178885Talk Status:    not resolved

In January 2014 the topic of Q190 was changed from "god" (an ambiguous word) to "God in monotheism". This corresponds to all the European-language articles as well as both of the Sinosphere WP articles. However, the Japanese article is about both monotheism and polytheism. I requested that they split the article and was met with a flat rejection due to the two concepts being ambiguous in Japanese culture. Furthermore, there is already a Japanese article corresponding to deity (Q178885), but as far as I can tell it is actually about the word "divinity".
